I was running Compiz in Karmic, and did the dist-upgrade. After the upgrade when I logged in, the WM was crashing (kde4-window-decorator).
I couldn't figure out how to turn off Compiz, so I removed my .kde directory and did a 'sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop' (I think)
Now I can get in and KDE is fine, but I still can't run Compiz. When I enable it, I get a KDE4-window-decorator crash.
I can use the cube-desktop that the new KDE has, and it's OK... but I don't find it as fast and I was used to Compiz.
