    kernel 3.9 and sound

I installed the kernel 3.9 from here:
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

    After rebooting sound is gone.
I also noticed that the image-extras package was not there anymore.

    any ideas?

I think the 3.9 kernels are a little wonky. When I tried the one dated 29 April, I get this error upon boot:
        Code:
Failed to alloc lowmem for boot params
Then I tried the one under "current" (which was yesterday, 30 April). It boots, but the nVidia drivers won't compile. The make.log gripes:
        Code:
        FATAL: modpost: GPL-incompatible module nvidia.ko uses GPL-only symbol 'system_wq'
This is with 319.12 from Xorg-Edgers. Oddly, the driver compiles fine under the previous 3.9 kernel, and also under 3.8 Ubuntu and 3.8 Liquorix.

HI guys. I just dowloaded the packages from here:
            http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

            and installed with gdebi.
This has always worked until now.

I'll have to reboot to 3.9 and get back here later.

            Edit: rebooted to 3.9

            Code:
            uname -a
            Linux fintanws1 3.9.0-030900-generic #201304291257 SMP Mon Apr 29 16:58:15 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
            dmesg is in the attch.

I'll have a look at all those links later today and get back to you. Thankx

            Don't have x-edgers installed (Yet)

To me it seems that the system is detecting the audio right:
              [ 12.247530] input: HDA Intel PCH HDMI/DP,pcm=3 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input8
[ 12.247664] input: HDA Intel PCH Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input9
[ 12.247799] input: HDA Intel PCH Front Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input10
There are audio problems with the 3.9 kernel: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2122068 -> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...4#post12633424
