There is also another interesting discussion on devel mailing list:
GTK System Settings Module in 12.10
      https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ku...ly/006238.html
      > "Do we want GTK on the CD", it would be best to consult the wider Kubuntu
      > development community for opinions before taking action."

Sure I am not "wider Kubuntu development community" but let me tell you that as a user I don't care wherther there are some gtk packages on CD or not. Average user wants to be able to have a nice looking apps regardless of whether they are KDE or Gtk apps. There is kde-gtk-config and this one should be fully supported. At the moment it works nice but I guess sill need more attention because some users have trouble with it.

Any other tools and solutions are welcomed.
So my opionion is: do whatever is necessarry to make gnome apps look good in KDE, not only with default Oxygen but with other gtk 2 and gt 3 themes as well.

No, I'm just a home user, but whether or not it comes with Gtk applications or not doesn't fuss me. I mean, as long as I can get Firefox, Thunderbird and Chromium from the repository I'm happy. As things are, I'm much preferring the upstream KDE experience of Kubuntu over other, perhaps more altered KDE distros. I like being able to tailor it to suit me, rather than coming with lots of stuff I'll probably not need or use.

This would be really nice. Currently dislike entering passwords so many times.

Set your kwallet password to <null> and it won't keep asking you each time you login (assuming you are talking about kwallet asking about wireless networks).

Any news about ksecretsservice for Quantal release?

Is it still in "Experimental" phase of development?

                      I made mention elsewhere of Ksecretservice in that it is probably not immediately apparent to a new user just what is being requested by "Secrets for user";

Is it a login type password, a previous kwallet password or say the password for Google.

It that module could have an exploanatory string for the new user, and maybe experienced one, and also have the text balloon be large enought to read all of the text it might be helpful.

                          I found UFW KControl Module:
                          http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php...content=137789
It would be nice to have it in Quantal repositories but I think someone security knowledgeable should test it.

And judging from the comments, it appears that the most recent update, from
May this year, is still troublesome. So perhaps continuing to omit it is wise.

A user on kde-apps sent me message asking me to reply to this thread...

I'm the developer of kcm_ufw, and eventhough it has not seen much activity recently - I'd hardly call it unmaintained! AFAIK, there are no bugs, and I think its fairly feature complete - so not sure whatelse should be added.

I've never been part of Kubuntu development - well not officially. I created kcm_ufw as when I went back to Kubuntu (10.10?) there was no firewall kcm - so I thought I'd add one. No one from Kubuntu has EVER contacted me to report bugs, etc. So I'm not sure how they can claim "It was unmaintained. The person that had been developing it dropped out of kubuntu development."....

As to having it as an official part of Kubuntu - thats up to the Kubuntu developers, not much I can do there. All I can say is that I'm more than happy to fix any bugs, etc.

I've just seen the error report with kcm_ufw and KDE4.9 - I was not aware of this (wish people would email me bug reports!) - and I will try to fix this ASAP.

I suspect there's enough interest in a KDE GUI front-end for UFW that on-going maintenance would be welcome. You could introduce yourself on the kubuntu-devel mailing list, or pop in to #kubuntu-devel on IRC. Let the Kubuntu developers know whether you're willing to follow through with bug reports and such.
