Hello! I had noticed another person who had the same issue as I am having, but the topic was closed without resolution.

The issue: Under System Settings > Desktop Effects on the General tab I have the following message.. "Desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical issues: Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available."

If I click on the Advanced tab and attempt to uncheck "Use OpenGL 2 Shaders" or if I attempt to change the Compositing type from "OpenGL" to "XRender" I receive an error.. "Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values. Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing the advanced options, especially changing the compositing type."

I have also attempted to enable Compiz, which when activated took away the Window decorations, even when from the Compiz-Fusion Tray Icon GTK Window Decorator was selected, and in the Compiz Settings Manager the Window Decoration plugin was checked. I have since disabled Compiz by reselecting Kwin as the window manager.

My current NVIDIA X Server Settings: 3-X screen Xinerama (3x1600x1200x60Hz)
GPU 0 is an Nvidia GeForce GT220 running both a CRT and DFP
GPU 1 is a GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 running a CRT

While I am able to function adequately for general usage, there are certain features that Plasma/Compiz offer that would be convenient, if not largely beneficial. If there is a direct solution to this, can someone please link me to it, or if there is not can someone explain why this will not work? Thanks in advance..

I believe that compositing is not availible if you use xinerama.
