Just upgraded to jaunty jackalope and it is beautiful! No big problems so far but I have NO idea how to use the plasma desktop. Looked for a 'how to' and found an article that explains all the terms and concepts. That referred to a 'how to' but even after a lot of searching I can't find it. Can anybody point me to a 'how to' for someone who has never used a plasma desktop.
I have 3 specific problems but if the how to includes these issues, I'm happy to find the answers for myself.
1. When I click the minimise button on Firefox (_) it seems to close down - I can't see it on the panel below at all! That would be a major irritation for me if I can't find a way round it.
2. I can't find a way to make the desktop folder larger on my desktop - it's only about a quarter of the size it should be - any ideas? Or is this not important if using plasma and I should just read the how to, assuming there is one.
3. RealPlayer seems to be the default player for audio files and can't find a way to make Amarok the default in this new distro. Am I being stupid?
Thanks,

The firefox might be minimized to a different desktop... check the others with the pager (that 1,2,3,4 box thing).
Click the cashew in the upper right, and Unlock Widgets. Then hover over the folder view and you will see a little menu slide out that one of which is a resize handle.
Sorry, off to work!

You're a luckier person than I!

Thanks,
Konqueror, as always, is the key :) Actually there's probably somewhere else but I love Konqueror so here we go:
(1) Open Konqueror
(2) Go to Settings -> Configure Konqueror
(3) Under "File Management" there should be "File Associations"
Should be exceptionally obvious from there! I believe that changes the defaults everywhere then, including Dolphin if that floats your boat. No idea about the Firefox issue though, other than it being on a different desktop somehow but even then that sounds like a bug. Haven't run into that myself, but admittedly I only use Firefox as a last resort (have I mentioned yet that I have a deep, irrational and abiding love for Konqueror?).

Have you perhaps got rid of your task manager by mistake? Click on the panel, add widgets and make sure that the task manager widget is enabled.

Thanks guys!
1. jjjshab, that did the trick for resizing the window
2. KeithZG, tried this in Konqueror but it doesn't seem to work for me - reverts back to RealPlayer as default first option. Will keep trying.
3. Toad, yes, task manager was the problem, once I enabled the widget all the firefox screens reappeared.
Big thanks for your help!!!!

It's actually oddly reassuring that so many years later, on entirely different platforms, RealPlayer continues to be evil ;)

I HATE RealPlayer! Always have and always will. The thing is that the problem is NOT solved by going into to the file associations menu in Konqueror, changing the application preference order simply doesn't work! I tried to open RealPlayer to see if I could sort it out there, but it doesn't open and when I did dmesg I got the following 3 lines:
[ 1759.606367] realplay.bin[3794]: segfault at 6578 ip b79449e0 sp bfd561c4 error 4 in libpthread-2.9.so[b793d000+15000]
[ 2019.014866] realplay.bin[4032]: segfault at 6578 ip b7a539e0 sp bfd65204 error 4 in libpthread-2.9.so[b7a4c000+15000]
So now my question is, can I remove RealPlayer from my system or is it 'needed' in jaunty for some reason? If I can't remove it, should I reinstall it to try to fix whatever that error is?

Uggh. Wisconsin Public Radio provides only rm for some of their programming... I could just scream sometimes (of course you can, and I do, get mp3 when you donate). But come on... public radio forcing rm on its listeners?!?!?!?!?!? THAT is evil.

Actually I don't know why you have realplayer in jaunty at all unless you installed it yourself. I have used kubuntu since 6.06 and I have never had realplayer installed at all, so from viewpoint you shouldn't have any problems removing it.

Thanks, I think I installed it in my first distro and it must just keep automatically updating or something. Will remove it.
