View Full Version : hibernate-ram randomly freezes

/usr/sbin/hibernate-ram usually does the following:

1. Switch to console
2. Do random things for a second or two
3. Suspend to ram

However, every 4-5 times (used to happen less often in Intrepid), it does:

1. Switch to console
2. Hard freeze, processor spins up, nothing happens until I manually kill my laptop with the evil power button of death

Where should I start investigating? It's rather hard to reproduce on demand...

First thing to try is, instead of the evil button of filesystem death, use Alt-SysRQ R S E I U B to shut it down gracefully.

It sounds like the "Do random things" is picking a bad thing to do. I dunno how you discover what the bad thing is, unless you can run "top" -- but it sounds like you've already lost control by the time the bad thing starts. :-\
