Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family NOT PERFORMING

    I have a "Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family". I freshly installed kubuntu 8.10 on my laptop, figured the driver would auto-detect in xorg.conf considering it is intel. Turns out my graphics are not running properly. Here are a couple of examples;

    1) When i play movies in any video player (dragon player, kaffiene, etc...) the audio is fine, but the video kind of jumps every 10 seconds or so.

    2) When i play games the graphics are very choppy.

I ended up thinking it was ultimately just a poor graphics chipset. Than i partitioned vista, installed the driver, movies are perfect, games are perfect... spark any ideas?

I've tried reloading my xorg.conf with no avail.

don't have direct experience with your chipset.
    but...
on my newest laptop i have the latest mobile 4 stuff (or whatever it's called).
issues with graphics were sorted out by
    a) enabling intrepid-proposed updates in the repos
    b) installing the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver from in there (i.e. version 2.4.1-1ubuntu10.3)

    intrepid-proposed has pre-released updates.
so, it's the latest, yet not released, updates.
of course it has loads of updates to the whole kde4.1, as well.

    see if this helps...

    my /etc/apt/sources.list, for your info:

        i found this thread.
if this is what you see, then it seems you can work around the issue by turning textured video off in xorg.conf.
        Code:
        Section "Device"
        	Identifier "Your Video Device"
        	...
        	Option "TexturedVideo" "false"
        	...
        EndSection

I had the same problem with you but by installing kde 4.2 it was solved.

i upgraded to KDE 4.2 yesterday, fixed video tearing, but didnt do anything for gaming... is it possible these are sepperate problems?

i also added that TexturedVideo false to xorg.conf... is there anything i need to do after i add it to enable it??

              sorry.
i don't really know anything about issues with games.
but i'd say everything boils down to how good the driver is.
i know there's a lot of people on this forum that do do games, though.
so, i'd post a new request about this.
also post your exact system's spec.
so that people with the same or similar config can help you.

it gets enabled by restarting the x server.
by hitting ctrl-alt-backspace or by rebooting your box.
if you've done any of that already, then it's enabled.
you can check your x server log file for error messages.
              the log is in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
you can open that with any text editor.
there's a lot of info in there, but errors, warnings and info messages are easy to find.
they're marked with (EE), (WW), (II), ...

but can't help you much more than this... :-(
