I just installed kubuntu 7 and now my video defaults to vesa and will not work with the ati fglrx driver without not booting into kubuntu and my sound doesn't work either.

And how do I get back into kubuntu? It just displays a black screen after I start the computer up and it loads up since I told it to use the ati fireglx drivers.

I'm using the 64bit kubuntu.

I'm also new to linux so be gentle on me.

I know zip about your hardware but you might give us some more info!

1st. Please explain your first two sentences, do you have some sort of dual boot?
Is anything running at all?

2nd. The 64bit version is 'a little' harder to set up,
you might be better off starting with a 32bit system.

3rd. Did you manage to get a running system with the Live Disk?
In that case you could copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file into your installed system.

4th. What sound card do you run?

btw, nice rig 8)

First thing to do is to run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg". Make sure you pick the fglrx driver (assuming that that is what you're using).

Did you tell it to use fglrx?

Will fglrx support the x1950xtx?

I just selected the fglrx drivers and restarted the computer and I just get a blinking cursor and it doesn't go back into linux.

So I'm back in windows now. This is damn frustrating. Why doesn't it work out of the box?

Edit: Sorry for being rude, just very frustrated.
