    Crackling & Distortion Under Pulseaudio

Maudio Delta 2496 Pci Sound Card, Plugged into my amp using RCA Phono Cable, Using Pulseaudio with the pavucontrol to set the volume, PC had 8GB of Ram and a core i3

Have had this problem since before upgrading from 11.10,

When I set all my volumes to 100% so there is a crackle and a bit of distorion to the audio. When playing music it seems to be the top end frequencies that distort. Hi-hats, lead guitar solos, etc etc

Does anyone have any idead how to resolve this?

I know its not the amp/speakers because I have my wintel box linked up to the same amp with the same sound card (yes i have 2) without the crackle and distortion.

    Thanks for reading

maybe you should check that the pulseaudio sampling rate matches that of your card

do you still have crackle if you remove pulseaudio and go directly with alsa?

I'll get onto that just now, hopefully that's what it is, thanks Sam

I dont really want to go back to alsa, pulseaudio is a lot better. TBH it probably doesnt crackle when i revert back to alsa but id rather get it working with pulse. The community will never get pulseaudio fixed if we just all keep removing it and going back to alsa.

Ill go and check the sample rates and report back , thanks for your help again Sam81

Also make sure the volumes aren't turned up too much and see this for more info and tricks.

I had the same problem and fixed it:

The fix offered above hasn't seemed to work for me. I made the suggested change and did a complete system restart. Audio played cleanly from local files for a while and then after playing an online stream for a few minutes then the pops and crackles started again. Using pavucontrol I can send the stream to my HTPC (Mythbuntu 10.04) and it plays cleanly. This leads me to think the issue might be sampling rate as alluded to in other threads. The odd thing to me is that I also have Debain Wheezy installed (IBM T60) and haven't noticed the issue on that installation. Otherwise I've been enjoying this foray into KDE again.
