Fn plus F9 - Search key on Dell laptops and Plasma 5.18.3

    I have
    Kubuntu 18.04 (bare metal)
and VMs on the same laptop of
Kubuntu 19.10 (with Plasma 5.18.3) and Kubuntu 20.04

In Kubuntu 18.04, The F9 key on my Dell laptop has the option to launch krunner if I press the Fn key and F9 at the same time.

But Fn+F9 does nothing in the two VMs running Plasma 5.18.3 on the same laptop. (Fn+F2 and Fn+F3 work to lower and raise volume).

My question: is this a quirk of my VMs or has Plasma 5.18.3 done away with Fn+F9 as a launcher for krunner? Can someone who has a bare metal install of 19.10 (with Plasma 5.18.3) or 20.04 please see what Fn+F9 does on their system?

Just to be clear: I don't normally use Fn+F9 to launch krunner. Alt+Space is good enough for me.

I checked with KDE neon fully updated: the Fn+F9 combo works there as well so it seems that my VMs only allow a subset of Fn-related shortcuts.
