    [SOLVED] Hot keys not working

Since years I use a bunch of Meta+* hotkeys but right now only one is working, Meta+D opens Dolphin.

Settings were made as before and in System Settings (Global hotkeys) they are as expected yet they don't seem to work.

Any ideas where I should look for a solution?

I've always put mine in Custom Shortcuts, not in Global Shortcuts. BTW, Meta+E is already a shortcut for Dolphin (in Global Shortcuts).

    Meta+T for konsole
    Meta+K for Kate
Meta+F for Firefox all work (in Custom Shortcuts).

Yes some come set in the default install and normally I change them to my way, like Meta+N for Firefox (from the days of Netscape...)
Another way to change and access these settings is by right klicking the menu button and selecting editing applications but whatever I fill in nothing works.

Could there be a permissions problem?

Unlikely because one works, but how to find out?

            Code:
            find . '!' -user $USER -ls
identifies files not owned by you.

              Good tip!

But no dice, only the link to an extra drive shows up. (as owned by root)

Can you try with a new user? Will things work with the new user?

I just checked again after today's updates. Custom shortcuts can be added just fine.

The two files written when a custom shortcut is added/modified are
                  ~/.config/khotkeysrc
                  and
                  ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc

(Mine is a clean install of 20.04.)

After a third(!) full reinstall I've got it working this morning, just a new user made no difference.
And I don't have a clue why it failed before.
Except maybe a very recent update to some library.

                    Thanks for the suggestions!
