    Kubuntu broken after package update

I just updated about 100 packages and restarted. Now nothing comes up after the grub boot loader. I went to recovery mode and did fsck. It said there is one package that needs downloading, kubuntu-desktop... When I click y to upload it, it says there is a network issue. Please help

    Have you tried
    sudo apt --fix-broken install
    ?

This worked in so far as being able to remove a couple obsolete packages. I was then able to install the missing package. But I still get nothing to coming up after Grub.

If you are able to get to a root shell with a network connection to use "--fix-broken" are you able to run

        sudo apt update
        sudo apt full-upgrade

What will a full upgrade do? do I need to make sure everything is backed up? I don't want to lose work I did this week.

I got things back by sudo apt-get purge nvidia-*
