Driver Management Software - Intel Wireless 8260 system alert

    Thinkpad x260 running 18.04

I just got a system notification saying something something default drivers. I clicked on it and got this:

A quick search found this Intel page on Linux wifi drivers, which I don't really know what, if anything to do with.

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...etworking.html

On the surface, it looks like the default driver is at least a native Intel driver... maybe.

My wifi can be a bit wonky at times, dropping out for no reason I can detect. But a restart usually takes care of it.

Do I need to be concerned? Is there something I should look into here?

That is a newer native kernel driver module for the wifi card, backported from a newer kernel. You should be able to use it, it probably fixes issues you are seeing. You should be able to revert back if necessary.

I had the same. Ticked the checkbox and pressed OK. Hasn't bothered me ever since
