So why didn't the purge get rid of those?

Another duplicate. Kubuntu forums really should add the ability for posters to delete their own posts that way they could delete duplicate posts instead of having to wait for a moderator or admin to delete them.

Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

you did an "autoremove" and that will only remove things that were in the no longer needed list .

right now you have nvidia-430 installed and 1 435 lib

      slow down and show me

      Code:
      lsmod
and use the # button at the top of the text input field in your reply to wrap the paste in the [CODE]tags

I think drivermanager may be broken because the NVIDIA tool now says I am using the NVIDIA 435 driver but drivermanager says I am using the navoo driver.

OK sorry we had company come over unexpected and I had to go

you did not put the "lsmod" output in the "[CODE]" tags , it makes it easier to read .

any way I'm not sure how to interpret this , it looks like some nvidia modules are loading but your video is running an Intel i915 modul/driver ,,,strange to me.

do you have both a nvidia chip and an intell one ?

any way IF it were me , and I can not promises it will fix things , I would do

              Code:
              sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-diver-430 libnvidia-common-435
              any errors post them.

then reboot you may/may not get a display so be prepared to reinstall the nvidia driver from the console (TTY)

              after rebooting reinstall the driver

              Code:
              sudo apt-get install nvidia-diver-430
              and reboot.

              good luck
