    weird wireless printing issue

My old printer (officejet 6000 wifi) worked great with this distro(18.10). It died and I replaced with laserjet pro m118dw. configured as usual for wireless with usb cable and windows Hp setup program to connect to network and it works perfectly wireless with windows 10 and also works great with KDE Neon. On Kubuntu 18.10, I don't have any problem getting the computer to recognize the printer or set it up, either through the web cups interface or through the kde setup dialog for printers. It will print the test page just fine. Problem is, any time I try to print using kde apps like okular, gwenview, kate, etc.,it either will not print or in the case of okular, will give a crash error message about a segmentation fault 11. Applications like chrome, thunderbird, and libre office are printing just fine.
I have tried google to no avail. No problems printing using okular in kde neon or using anything in Windows. Any suggestions as to how to proceed in resolving this?
