    Need a good Skype alternative

I need some sort of video conferencing software for a few weeks. Skype won't install on my system (it keeps complaining about some library that I have installed but it can't find) so I've been looking for alternatives. So far I've tried the following but all of 'em have some problem or another:

Please give me some suggestions for best skype alternative ?

    Thanks!
    Fred

I use Zoom.us since more than a year. Works very well on Linux...

I tested jitsi by attempting to install jitsi-meet, the full package. It failed with unrecoverable dependences. Perhaps just installing jitsi along, giving 1 to 1 video, will work, but I never tried it.

I've been using discord with no problems.

Discord doesn't offer video conferencing, but it is a good in-game or in-blog communication app.

I've never used video conferencing but I have done single video calls that were better than Skype. I'm pretty sure discord does offer video conferencing.

First up, video chat. All you do to get started is create a group direct message, and click the video icon. That’s it. Everyone in the chat will see the video, and currently up to ten users can video chat at once — but Discord CTO Stansislav Vishnevskiy warns quality will take a hit after the first five users.

SpecialEdit: I just tested it, video conferencing works on discord. And... it's free.

Is that feature in the downloaded app? I've used the browser feature and didn't see any video, conference or otherwise.

EDIT: Never mind. I went into settings and saw that video & conferencing option.

It does look good! And, it comes in AppImage!

                    https://wire-app.wire.com/linux/wire...86_64.AppImage
                    (32bit AppImage also available)

The wire in the Bionic repository doesn't appear to be an integrated package and is CLI. The GUI is GTK+.

EDIT: A mind is a terrible thing to lose. I used the AppImage to try Wire and it recognized my email address. I used one of my passwords for such apps and was logged in. I have no memory of ever creating an account on Wire. However, when I tested the answerbot I recognized the icon! "Anna".
I had created an account on Wire within the last year and didn't remember doing so.
I think my time on this and other forums is coming to an end. It's been a good run but this cowboy is getting too absent minded. I'm going to get off the broncs and go set in the bleachers. Adios, folks.

haha you probably looked it one of the previous times I have plugged this on the forum.

Once I was looking for a configuration file, needed for a music sequencer I have to connect with a piece of equipment. I spent some time searching to see if someone had made one I could download. I found just one on a forum made a few years prior, which was lucky, downloaded it and it worked fine. Then I looked at the forum again and realised, it was actually me that had done it and forgot.
