Ark doesn't open zip files

Ark will not open zip files.

Advice please

Verify that you have the packages zip and unzip installed.

And, if you don't have unzip look for bzip2.
It does unzipping by using the "-d" switch.

What specifically happens when you try? Any message, errors?
Is this all zip files, have you tried a variety?
You can tell dolphin to open zip files in the file manager itself. Does it work there?

Nothing happens, and, there are no messages.

I have tried a number of zip files and nothing happens.

I should explain that I downloaded these zip files from an online storage facility that I use as a backup facility. But, I have always been able to unzip archives in the past.

I tied using Dolphin. It is configured to manage zip files, but, again, nothing happens. The zip files have size.

I had p7zip-full. I now have both.

Ark still will not open zip files. I am wondering if I should re-install Ark - remove it, then re-install.

I think that p7zip-full includes p7zip

What facility?

Ark uses libarchive, so you might have hit an issue similar to this one.

I tried this:

It should be a complete archive

I tried uninstalling and then re-installing Ark, but it still will not unzip the zips. File tells me that the archives are zips. How can I unzip these archives?

The fact that the file(s) in question have a .zip name extension is not a guarantee that they are, in fact, zip compressed files.

In a konsole, and in the directory you have the files, type: unzip -v filename.zip

IF these are valid zip compressed files, you'll get information about their contents. IF they are not, .....

Could this be the case? zips, like rar archives, can be multiple files, with the last one in a batch being the 'key' to combine it all into one. Maybe all the files need to be in one spot, so the last file can see all the other parts?

UPDATE:

I think that Ark is working properly. Some of the downloads from 'hubic' seem to be faulty.

I want to ask about zip files that work with Ark.

I have on my machine zip and unzip,and, also, p7zip and p7zip-full.

Am I right in thinking that I need zip and unzip so that Ark can function, but I do not need the p7 variants?
