    fresh install/upgrade from 14.04

so just tonight I used a daily.iso (yesterdays) to do a fresh install of 18.04 on my old desktop I use to feed net to the TV that has been running 14.04 for quite a wile .

I was going to wipe 14.04 for the fresh install , but apparently I had made 2 smallish partitions for installs when I got the box on it's 1TB drive and had forgotten this fact.

so now it has both hears some hardware info of the type of box

all it's used for is to have a web-browser on the TV for youtube , netflix , amazon-prime and the like , and from the first firing up of firefox (then coping over the old profile from 14.04) it's been working like a champ .

SO YAY alls well in vinny's media land

I still need to add the large storage partition (800+GB) to /etc/fstab and link the home folders to the new /home/vinny but that's no biggie

Two weeks ago I installed 18.04 on an Asus laptop that had 14.04.
Only the / was formatted, /home was retained and all is working fine.

Last night being bored in the hotel I did similar with my Lenovo W520 laptop, on this one it replaced 16.04 and my first impression is really good.

I'm also pleased to see various useful widgets that were present on KDE4 have returned.

Hi Teunis. I did similar on a laptop having Windows 10 on it: shrunk Win10, made room for /, home, swap, and installed Kubuntu 18.04 in dual-boot with Windows 10. No problems! I really like ASUS for being so accommodating in their easy-to-use UEFI-firmware/BIOS. We occasionally get questions about dual-booting on laptops Windows and Kubuntu, so I wrote this up:

Have an old dell 1564 and did a fresh install of 18.04, it was running 16.04 before, I just wipe the whole thing and 18.04 is working great. smooth and everything is just working.

I'm very pleasantly surprised how well the otherwise cheap Asus runs on Kubuntu.

But unless they are going to do something real stupid my next laptop is again going to be a Lenovo, now a W series, in future a P series.
But then this about 7 y/o W520 runs so well I don't need to switch.
