    Kubuntu 16.04 now working without issues

    I've returned to Kubuntu and installed 16.04 due to it's LTS nature. However, I noticed a few bugs in the K desktop and other K packages so have replaced the K desktop with XFCE and other K packages with GTK+ equivalent, have also replaced apt with pacman and systemd with sysVinit.

    Kubuntu is now working without issues.
    systemd is not for me. I am a retro Nintendo gamer. consoles I play on are, SNES; N64; GameCube and WII.

        I don’t think he uninstalled KDE, he just added XFCE and some GTK+ based apps. That’s the beauty of Linux.

        I’ve been toying with the idea of adding XFCE just to try it out. First I will take a Btrfs snapshot, then install it. If I don’t like it or it breaks my system then I am only 3 minutes away from my old setup.
        That’s the beauty of Btrfs!

          For playing around, I'm trying cloning with qemu/kvm. I've got a minimal iso that I clone and add what I want to see what explodes ...

            I always add fluxbox just in case I get locked out of KDE for some reason , to have some kind of GUI to fix things in .
            it is very minimal .

                  PS: all the meues are text files , at first it populates with manly xwindow apps but you can add whatever .

                  exampel from /home/vinny/.fluxbox/fluxbox-menu

                  Code:
                    [submenu] (File Management) {}
                          [exec] (Brasero) {/usr/bin/brasero} <>
                          [exec] (K3b) {/usr/bin/k3b} </usr/share/pixmaps/k3b.xpm>
                          [exec] (mc) { x-terminal-emulator -T "mc" -e /usr/bin/mc} </usr/share/pixmaps/mc.xpm>
                          [exec] (dolphin) {/usr/bin/dolphin}
                       [end]
                  header

                  Code:
                  # This is an automatically generated file.
                  # Please see <file:/usr/share/doc/menu/README> for information.

                  # to use your own menu, copy this to ~/.fluxbox/menu, then edit
                  # ~/.fluxbox/init and change the session.menuFile path to ~/.fluxbox/menu

                    Wow!
                    That was an interesting trip down memory lane! Especially FluxBox, which is so similar to Xwm stuff, my first desktop manager on RH5. I'm going to keep them for old times sake, until I do a fresh install of KDE Neon using the 18.04 release, when its ready, not beta. That installation should last till this laptop dies.
