left mouse click not working desktop config switch activites whatever

Now folks...THIS is a first for the ol' woodsmoker.

The left button, of course, works. It works for ALL things on the OS.

EXCEPT to "switch activity" or any OTHER "mouse action" in desktop configuration.

I can set the right button to anything, and also scroll wheel.

    but not the left mouse.

I put the mouse on the Neon machine and it works fine to left click on the desktop to do stuff.

I can insert a wired mouse on the zesty machine and the right button works and the scroll works, but not the left button,

But, to re-emphasize the left button works will all other things on the computer like drag to select in a word processor.

    Genuinely a first.

The obvious answer was to change the appropriate line in:

    /.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc

    which I did..

    [ActionPlugins][0]
    LeftButton;NoModifier=switchactivity
    RightButton;NoModifier=switchactivity
    wheel:Vertical;NoModifier=switchactivity
    rebooted

    no joy.

A discussion in Debian users elicited this reply in 2016 for Plasma 5

This situation has come about as a result of partial migration to testing
of the necessary packages. It will sort itself out.

The last problem I had with my mouse (LogiTech M325 optical) was that it kept disappearing. I'd unplug the USB dongle and plug it back in and it would work for a while. Then, one day, I happened to pop open the battery dialog in the system tray and it showed my mouse power down to a couple percent! That indicator hadn't really worked for me for years. Now it works. My mouse will run 18 months or longer on a single AA battery. Now I can tell when the battery needs replacing.

As can be seen from my post in the Neon sub-forum, the situation is now occurring in an updated Neon Developers git-stable 5.10.0.

It is NOT the situation in a previous install on another usb stick which was laid aside 6 days before the date of this post and not updated.

this might be considered a bug.
