    Wireless disabled

I'm running 14.04 and trying to use a Lenovo "rabbit ears" wireless. I keep getting the message "wireless disabled" when I click on the network icon. There is no hardware switch on the device.

Here are the outputs from lspci, ifconfig -a, and lsmod, respectively.

I've looked in Driver Manager, but all that shows up there is my video card. I have no idea what to try next. Ideas welcome. Thanks.

Are you running 14.04 in a virtual machine?

No; actually, I'm running a virtual machine in Kubuntu. (It's Windows; I like to keep it off to the side where it can't screw too many things up.)

I'm not familiar with the Lenovo "rabbit ears" wireless. How does it connect with your hardware - USB, Some MB card slot?? Do you know what wireless chip it contains? Don't see anything listed that looks familiar.

have you tried a soft switch such as fn+f2 check in teh network manager to see if you can toggle it there
a model number for the card or iwconfig and lshw section for your network would be very helpful.

I don't see where Intel's wireless firmware or driver are loaded. Is your laptop newer than the distribution you're running?

Uh, well, this is pretty embarrassing so I thought I should share it. In another variation of "it works better when you plug it in," it also works better if you make sure the card is [I]firmly[I] seated in the mobo slot.

hehe. We've all "Been there; Done that!" When dealing with operating systems, we all tend to think issues are 'complicated' when often, it's a 'simple' solution that we just fail to see.

Yes things do tend to work better that way. Its great that you didn't fry it or you mobo with it half installed.
