items in windows and text in console is scrambled

The system is old HP desktop serie with intel vga onboard.
Mostly items icons and text are scrambled in windows. In firefox for example graphics are scrambled. In console text is scrambled.
I've found that solution is maybe writing xorg.conf file with forcing specific mode. i can not even do that because i can not see what i am typing.
Beside inserting nvidia (or ati) vga card is there any simpler solution? Something like safe video mode or ?

ps: sometime for moment if i use keys for disabling compositing i see descrambled areas.

wile at the grub screen ,,,,,before you start to boot ,,,,press "e" ,,,,,,use the arrow keys to navigate to the Linux line and right behind "quiet splash" type in "nomodset" and then press ctrl+x ,,,,,,,,see if this helps for now .

this will only effect this one boot of the system as a test.

so i leavet nvidia gt 610 and it works
it would be nice to have video safe mode that works.
kubuntu worked after installation. update killed intel vga
on same system windows 7 works.
