no more languages after update to plasma 5.4.2

    Hi,

on my laptop i have Kubuntu 15.04 installed with plasma 5.2.2.
I had 3 languages installed: french (fr_FR), SLovak (sk_SK) and for sure english (en_US)

Once i upgraded plasma to v5.4.2 i have no more language available except US and all locales are mixed fr/en

Have you already experienced it ?
how did you solve it ?
    thx

I am guessing you are using either a Kubuntu-ci ppa, or one of the staging ppas, which are completely unsupported. You use them at your own risk.

If you are using a kubuntu-ci ppa, then there simply are not any language packs available, as these are not included in KDE's git code, I believe.

If you are using a Staging ppa, either you are missing a ppa that contains the language files, or they are simply not present -- these repos are NOT designed for daily use, they are places for them to be built and to find any missing or broken pieces, or things that failed to compile, before being moved elsewhere.

As kde split things up into Plasma, Frameworks, and Applications, you may want to make sure you have the ppas for these 3 enabled if you still want to play with incomplete, testing packages. (language files are part of Applications, so.........)

Either way, you are looking at seeing broken or incomplete or buggy stuff no matter what, dramatically so if you are playing with the Staging ppa's

You should be able to revert back by using ppa-purge to remove the repos that you used to get plasma 5.4, and downgrade back.

proper 5.4 packages should be forthcoming via the kubuntu-backports ppa, since they are present in the Staging sections, likely waiting for some missing pieces yet to be built.......

In my un-humble opinion, if you really want plasma 5.4, you will have a much better time either waiting for it to arrive in the Kubuntu-backports ppa, or jumping straight into Kubuntu 15.10. I lean towards 15.10, personally.

Exactly, but i wonder if upgrading from Kubuntu 15.04 to 15.10 is possible easily as i use it for daily work and especially what i have to do because a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade is not enough for that.

It is almost as easy as it will be when the Final is released.

        http://kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-15-10-beta-2/ links to:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WilyWerewolf/Beta2/Kubuntu , which provides the command to use, but
        https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WilyUpgrades/Kubuntu has a step-by-step tutorial

Back up your stuff, of course, no matter how you go.
It is also wise to try out Wily as a live session to see how things work on your system.

Another option is to make sure you have added the Staging-Applications and Staging-frameworks ppas, to make sure you have a full slate of current packages - as far as I can tell, the only thing holding back plasma 5.4 from Vivid is that kdepim (Konact etc) is failing to build. If your Kontact and Kmail are working fine right now, it still should after adding the other ppas

Once you have upgraded the packages, you then need to remove the ppa entries so that any future packages don't come from there. When all the packages finally build in the ppas , they will be moved to the kubuntu-backports ppa, which is where all plasma updates for Vivid come from.

Upgrading has the chance for failure
Using the Staging ppas can break your system
A clean install of 15.04 or 15.10 can be a lot of work if you don't have a separate /home partition and have a lot of things to restore

It is rather up to you which one feels the best to try.

After official release v15.10 i tried to update and upgraded my OS, but nothing has been improved on Settings > translation > languages available....
only english is preferred even if i had before 3 languages and a full list of available languages on the left part of this screen.

So the problem is not in the backports ppa, as the same issue is in v15.10.
I have the same issue after upgrading from 15.04 (from DVD installation) to 15.10 (released yesterday)

For more details, just read: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=128940
