    broadband modem issue

My Thinkpad has a build in 3G broadband modem and it works fine.

Since 15.04 I am at every boot asked for the pin and then my password.
This never happened on older releases, I could just enable it in the network manager and get on line.

I have a strong suspicion this is linked to the problem I always have to reboot my laptop to prevent it from locking up.
After a hot boot I'm not asked for the pin & PW plus the computer no longer locks up.

Other symptoms, when I after a first boot quickly initialise the reboot it goes quite fast (SSD), if I wait for the first signs of a lock up, hotkeys stop working, then the shutdown takes some 5 minutes.

Does anyone have an idea what could be done about this?

        Does this do it?

        Code:
        sudo apt-get install gsm-utils
        sudo gsmctl -d /dev/ttyACM0 -o unlock sc all 1234
        where 1234 is your PIN

Thank you Spadge, that was a very good find!

Now several minutes after a cold boot that did not ask the PIN question I can still use the global short cuts that would otherwise lock up.
I can't really get my head around the link between those two items, the GSM PIN and locking up of the DE but there clearly is one.

Weird is the linked article talks about version 12.10, I never had this problem until 15.04 and now it seems to also happen on 14.04.3...
