I have an early 2008 MacBook - 2.4 Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram. I am presently running kernel 3.19.0.26 but the issue also occurs when I boot previous version, 3.19.0.25, and it did not occur on that version before the latest kernel upgrade.
The issue has been getting progressively worse over the past 72 hours. First sign something was wrong: trackpad stops responding while surfing on the internet. Reboot the computer, trackpad is functional again. The first day, it only happened once on about two hours of use of the laptop. The next day, the same issue occurred three times in about, again two or three hours use, and logging out and logging back in resolved the issue temporarily.
Today is the worst: after maybe half an hour's use, the issue occurred, and logging out I get to use the trackpad for about five seconds, then it stops responding. Logging in, the trackpad is functional for again five seconds or so, then stops working. This is now accompanied by the keyboard also working sporadically. I am now using external keyboard and mouse to be able to write to you.
I have taken a look in syslog ... here is what I found this seems pertinent:
So, is this what I have been dreading, my 7 year old laptop with one foot in the grave, or is it a software issue that can be corrected?

After finishing up my post, I checked trackpad and keyboard, and they had started working again. dragged my fingers across the trackpad, and about five seconds later, stopped working again. Here is the complete readout from SysLog:
