    Turning on fans?

    I have a dell inspiron 1000 with Kubuntu Dapper Drake installed im having a bit of trouble with my processor getting pretty hot and i dont know how to make it so the fan will turn on sooner. Can anyone help me out with this?

        FWIW

        Im sure youre right to focus on the fans first, but if your cpu supports it perhaps you could consider compiling a kernel to make use of frequency scaling.

          You're right: My bios doesn't have a setting to turn on and off fans - it only allows you to see some stats such as speed and temp. Sorry.

            so sorry to bring up an old topic but my laptop was almost wrecked because of high temps i need some help in finding a precompiled kernel that will help me with the fan issue if anyone can help

              Check your /proc/acpi directory you should have a fan folder. For example mine is /proc/acpi/fan/FAN/state. In konsole type sudo echo on > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN/state. This will only turn your fan on and will run at full speed
