Can the Plymouth theme be changed or not?

I installed Kubuntu 14.04 and the first thing I am trying to do is change the Plymouth theme, but I am running into problems. First off, I have installed themes that I have used in the past that work, but now do not. I do have an NVIDIA graphics card installed, and I have read on some forums that Plymouth may not work correctly when using NVIDIA drivers. Here is a fix Plymouth link that I went to: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/...-ubuntu-13-04/
There is a fix for this on YouTube also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jIegOR6A0M but I do not think the software sources are updated, so I`m not sure if they work correctly with this version of Kubuntu.
Right now the only theme that works is the default theme. All the other ones display nothing but straight lines when Plymouth boots up. I haven`t had time to check out or change any of thje scripts yet, but I was wondering if any of the Kubuntu developers had any comments on the functionality of Plymouth and/or how to correctly change the themes.

    Working at here...

I don't have problems to change the Plymouth theme - WIth the AMD open&proprietary drivers

    At here

    :~$ inxi -G
Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Barts PRO [Radeon HD 6850]
    X.Org: 1.15.1 drivers: ati,radeon (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) Resolution: 1920x1080@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: Gallium 0.4 on AMD BARTS GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 10.1.3
    &

    :~$ inxi -G
Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Barts PRO [Radeon HD 6850]
    X.Org: 1.15.1 driver: fglrx Resolution: 1920x1080@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series GLX Version: 4.3.12798 - CPC 13.35.1005

With the fglrx the Plymouth resolution is a bit lower.

High-color graphics on nVidia, ATI and other cards
    --------------------------------------------------

Our default configuration uses low-color graphics on cards or drivers
for which "Kernel Mode Setting" (in-kernel graphics drivers) are not
    available.

This is because the driver that permits high-color graphics tends to
cause issues with suspend and resume, and we opted to prefer that
    working.

For nVidia and ATI users, the default "nouveau" and "radeon"
drivers are Kernel Mode Setting enabled, but do not always
provide 3D capability at the current time. By switching to
using the restricted/non-free nvidia-glx or fglrx drivers,
you will gain 3D capability at the loss of a high-color
    splash screen.

You can however chose to enable high-color (and resolution) console
if you find it doesn't affect suspend/resume for you, or you don't
    use that feature.

There are various methods of doing this, the most robust is the
    following four steps:

Append video=vesafb to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in
    /etc/default/grub
    sudo update-grub

    echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
    sudo update-initramfs -u
