[LAPTOP] 12.04 Studio login OS response “Your unlock login keyring is not recognized.”

This relates to Kubuntu 14.04 installed follow on to 12.02 Studio on ACER Aspire laptop. See my 3-10-15 Post, on login I got notified: “Your unlock login keyring is not recognized.” I've sat the laptop aside. I salvaged the data and got to where login is feasibl. It's been sitting for 1.5 years.

I'll assume that Ubuntu studio is running Gnome, or Unity? There may be something wrong with the gnome keyring, or it is missing.
We are more Kubuntu and KDE centered here, but someone here may be more familiar with the Gnome/unity side of things.

The keyring is just a place that stores application passwords (I think), so that in and of itself should not stop you from getting at files and such. I do not understand what you want to do by "save the ppa".

Again, this is not a kde/kubuntu issue, so there may be fewer of us familiar with the ubuntu studio/gnome/unity end of things

Many thanks claydoh. Am pleased. Actually I raised this question here thinking Ralf's PPA was all about Kubuntu powered machines. Since I cannot get into the terminal nor BIOs, and cannot remember whether my studio on the laptop is kubuntu studio powered with the Ralf PPA or a lesser ordered ubuntu studio gnome/unity.

sure would like you and all kubuntu members to talk to us about the PPA difference that is used to kick butt on stage after stage and in video productions. Being above 75, I recall time as a kubuntu member when there was considerable push to make use of kubuntu studio powered with the Ralf PPA.

Are you saying kubuntu studio powered with the Ralf PPA has fallen by the way side?

Ubuntu Studio is a spearate "flavour" of Ubuntu, just as Kubuntu is.
No idea who or what "Ralf's PPA" is for.

I do know the "keying" related error is NOT a Kubuntu or KDE error as it does not use the gnome-keyring , which is giving you the error. Unity, Gnome, and Xfce - which is the desktop used by U-Studio do use it.

I think you may need to describe the steps that get you to the error more clearly, Are you able to enter a password, and the error happens? What happens if you ignore the error and go ahead?

this laptop logs in but has a “unlock login keyring is not recognized” kubuntu install problem launch pad is reviewing.

Rather than beat a dead horse, I have this acer aspire in standby.

It is likely that the password is wrong, assuming that you cannot get to the desktop at all. I cannot find any instance of the phrase " unlock login keyring is not recognized" anywhere in a few different web searches, but one last bit you can try is to reset the sudo uers's password from the grub's recovery option

friends rest, I will try to take prior kubuntu user guidance I copied from 2010 and 2011 posts by forum mentors as follows:
                  Helps below [kubuntu]automatically unlock keyring
"automatically unlock this keyring whenever i'm logged in" doesn't work
                  Hi All,
I want to share a solution to a problem I had with my new install of ubuntu 10.10
The problem was every time I logged into ubuntu, a dialog box would pop up asking me to enter my password for the default keyring, so that the network manager applet could connect to my encrypted wireless network. Despite checking the box "automatically unlock this keyring whenever i'm logged in", every time i did log in it would still ask me for the password! A quick google came up with no real solutions except for setting the password for the 'Default' keyring to blank.

                  My solution was:
uninstall network manager applet from Ubuntu Software Centre
                  immediately reinstall network manager applet
(^^^^^ not sure if these steps are really needed ^^^^^^)

Open System -> Preferences -> Passwords and Encryption Keys
In the Passwords tab, delete the 'passwords: Default' keyring
Right-click the 'passwords: login' key and select 'Set as default'

This fixed the problem for me. I think the cause was the login keyring was not set to be the default keyring. So even though logging in unlocked this keyring, the wifi keys were stored in another keyring that was the default, meaning I had to type the password again.

                  Hope this helps someone!
                  Ross

In password tab of my dialog for the password and encryption there is just
one option asking me to input password.
                  Hi,
In seahorse, I clicked right on my keyring "login" and chosen "default", and I removed my other keyring that was named "default".

However, I don't remember when, (before or after changing default keyring, or before or after removing old default), but I also clicked right on my login keyring, chosen "Lock", and after chosen "Unlock". In the dialog appearing, there was option about unlocking it when I log in.

give me time to rest and catch up on tasks that got behind while I muscled up to solve necessaries facing me since I was away.

It is 3-10-15. am able to log in. OS crashed. Report sent to launch pad; is related to “unlock login keyring is not recognized." This ACER aspire is on standby.

                      thx - ken
