Convert wmf graphics into svg files

I found about 1000 small graphic files, all as *.wmf (Windows Meta files) which I would like to convert in batch to a svg file. If I open a file in Inkscape and export it immediately under the same name with the extension .svg, all is well and I can use it in Gimp and other programs like Scribus.

However, I installed pyRenamer, converted for a test 5 wmf files into svg and Inkscape can not open the file.

Can anybody help with this question?
