Sound volume reduced after dist-upgrade

Along with the language problem I have since the last dist-upgrade, I find the the sound volume is greatly reduced. I used to set the volume contro on my speakers at about half, now I have to open it wide.

Everything is maxed in Amarok and VLC (happens with both) and with the mixer. The test in System Settings > Multimedia sounds louder, but it seems to me it was always loud.

How can I increase my sound?

RESOLVED: Have to go into mixer

Got it. In the sound-control panel, you have to click on mixer and then move everything to max.

I do NOT understand what volume control has to do with mixer. This is not intuitive, but then... As I get older, there are more and more things I do not understand.
