Hello all, been having a screen tear problem with the Nvidia driver i'm using. I have version 310 installed and have tried 304 and 313 and still get the tearing towards the top of the sreen. I am using a GT640 2g card and have tried testing it with a windows install and no tearing at all so I have to believe it's the driver but haven't found one that works better. I've read posts about this but the solution for them was installing an OS higher than 12.04 which I really do not want to do right now. Any ideas would be great thanks.

kwinrc is an existing file. It's located in .kde/share/config/kwinrc. I'd be surprised if you don't have it.Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007

You shouldn't have had to execute the edit command with sudo as kwinrc is in your user's home directory, not root's.Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007

The file itself isn't "hidden", but the directory it's in is: .kde/share/config/Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007

ok, well the info i've givin is what's in those two files. Not sure if that's what I need for this problem but let me know if more is needed. So far i'm not sure how to preceed at this point, don't wanna mess things up not knowing what i'm doing kinda thing

Ok, so still had the screen tear issue so I manually installed Nvidia driver 331.49 from Nvidia's site and and now get the message from nvidia X server settings that "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server." so after doing just that, it still comes up this way. I checked Kinfo and the X server info comes up but nothing for open GL. Tried running glxinfo | egrep 'vendor|version' in terminal and I get this

Tried installing Nvidia driver 331.20 through xorg-edgers and x-swat PPA's but keep getting "unable to find package" for both PPA's. I checked to see if they are there and they are so i'm stumped at the moment
