Can I upgrade via CD/DVD?

Hello,
I have kubuntu 12.10, and I want to upgrade into 13.04 by DVD. I have Winxp, and I wanted to keep it, and just to upgrade but not with download any package, as I already have dvd.
Can you help me please.

At first thx for all :-) , to your answers. Iam really in bad mood since my Kubuntu does not run since Wednesday.
After doing ctrl+alt+F1 and startX I could finally access to my kubuntu environnement. First fundamental step.
However the problem still persist. I have several messages relating problem as for example Authorisation Failed-Failed to obtain authentification -. When I tried update, by using "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade " with console, the system told me that It stays nearly 1 Gb, in fact I doubt the system is still stable. The Muon software manager shows a problem see attachment
Can someone help me please.

You can easily realize that if I post this topic, the first time since 2008, -since 2008 yes I have regular kubuntu from that date- It is obvious that I searched in Internet. Sometimes you have good responses, sometimes some trolls send you to a situation that is worst.
Since 2008 I haven't any problem, but this time it is quite the mess.


PS:do not take it as an attack, however, You should understand that we are not all, a system specialist, even less unix specialists. I agree with you, linux users nowadays should have the minimum unix knowledges in Unix Environnement. As Iam working unix environnement such solaris with Oracle Database, I know of course the only basic unix commands, but not enough for system. Ubuntu should become the main Operating System in the world, in order to democratize it, you will have to understand that, most of the people does not understand what Unix is, and expect the same support as Windows. I understand it is a great challenge, but it is worth, in order to delete Microsoft, Apple presence, or any commercial O/S.

As a second / third sentence I gave one example found with the above search of how an update from DVD is done.

Your last message with the Muon error kind of indicates some files have an issue with file ownership, not easy to diagnose unless you use the command line.

So my suggestion is to try the update and upgrade from this command line:

sudo apt-get update

In case of errors report them here.

At first it is worth to say that my english understanding, is not like yours, sometimes I have problem to understand, and sometime have a problems to explain what I mean. The first thing that do my brain, when I have a problem, I translate it into english. And some misundersantings oviously occured/occurs/will occur.
Secondly beside this system problem it is worth to say that when things are good, all is good, however when things are bad, all turns to bad. Beside Kubuntu, I have to fight a painfull divorce procedure, that is not easy.

It seems OK after typing :

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It booted nomaly.
The only problem, is independant from Install, or 13.04, there is several months ago. The subject is panels, I don't know how to manage the three panels in the desktop, they one above, the 2 others below. They reduce my screen. But I repeat, for a long time ago, I had this problem, I will post a specific topic about this subject.

Feedbacks from the install. All is OK. Thx for all.
You can close the subject and set it as solved. The only critics that I have concerning this wonderfull Ubuntu Operting System, we cannot upgrade a previous install with CD/DVD.
What a pity.
More than never, I will stay on Kubuntu, and my next shopping is Ubuntu SmartTV, and SmartPhone.

In case you have too many panels, you can simply right-click them, unlock Widgets and select remove or delete.

And finally, you can go to your original post and select SOLVED in the header by yourself.

The greatest difficulty that I had, is to understand What was happened. Indeed, The panic, added with bad mood, and a poor connection Internet did that I did not understand where did the problem come from. In the panic context, I believed I had to format, and trying another installation. But I was afraid, I did not format my disk since 2008, date of my first kubuntu install.
After upgrading by console, I saw a white/grey screen. At first I bellieved the install/or installer were dead. Lookiing on internet, I met this forum. In order to retrieve the screen, I had to type CTRL+ALT+F1 and after starx. I was saved, after the problem came from only a bad upgrade. Then I followed your advises and it was done. With these problems, if you add my poort english level, and chieflty -even in my native language-I have a bad expression, indeed Iam often misunderstood, as my explanation are confused, because I did not understand what is the problem. In that context the bad mood, and nervous attitude is not helpfull. I think even in french language, people could not understand me, a fortiori in english.
In anyway the install is clean now, and Ubuntu will stay in my comp.
