My monitor blackens while watching a video. Help please.

    Kubuntu 12.10 KDE 4.9.5

While playing a movie on my computer, after ten minuted the screen goes black until I move the mouse. The second time it happened at 16 minutes. To try to avert the problem I opened System Settings>Power Management and unchecked everything in the hope that it would stop. Since it did not happen with the same time separation, I am confused about the cause.

I seem to remember help on this problem previously, but I cannot find the solution and do not remember how to fix the problem. I do not need help concerving energy and would like my computer to work without having to restore by making a move with my mouse. TIA for any help you may provide.

The solution is to open a konsole and type in the command: xset -dpms

Another solution that works is to set the time for the screen to turn off to something like 180 minutes (or some length longer than your movie is). This works every time, whereas unchecking the boxes does not seem to work.
