Ktorrent with Kunbtu 8.04 and 3G

    Hi,

At the moment looking to run ktorrent and am currently using Kubuntu 8.04 hardy also I'm using a 3g modem because it's all I have access to just at the moment.

I've tinkered around with this, but am having trouble getting it to work. The version of ktorrent currently running is 2.2.5, which seems to be standard with hardy.

Is anyone able to help suggest a good solution to get this to work?

    I'm unsure as to whether:

    a) this version of ktorrent is obsolete and is now a waste of time,
    b) I need additional software to make it compatible with a 3g modem,
    c) or there is a problem with configuration somewhere such as openings ports?

    Thanks

The most current version of Ktorrent is 4.2.1. Id say your best move is going to be to a more recent OS all together...

Thanks, I thought that was what the problem probably was.

Is is just a straightforward process of using the recent version (4.2.1), or is another program needed to supplement this if I'm using a 3G modem?

The 3G modem is not the issue. However, I don't think a modern modem would work on such an old distribution. Furthermore, You really should upgrade. Kubuntu and KDE have come a very long way since 8.04

I've just upgraded to 12.04 and everything seems to work well.
Version 8.04 was obviously holding me back there.

          Thanks

You should maybe consider adding some backport PPAs. KDE 4.10 is just delicious!
