Amarok 1.4 is released for Kubuntu

    http://kubuntu.org/announcements/amarok-1.4.php

It has the Moodbar thingy now (whatever the heck that is ) and much better non-ipod mp3player support, plus a few tweaks from beta3

It looks like it only has the xine engine, there is still the arts-engine listed in apt/adept but it is for 1.3.9 so it won't install, luckily the xine engine works best

You will need to install libxine-extracodecs for mp3 playback, etc

Re: Amarok 1.4 is released for Kubuntu

Just an added note, amaroK 1.4 is only for Dapper, because of some dependecy problems in Breezy:

Packages are available for i386, PowerPC and AMD64. Amarok 1.4 can not easily be supported on Kubuntu 5.10 (breezy) because it needs a newer version of taglib.
Damn... I was hoping to try it out...

well, you could try using taglib1.4 from here
      http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthre...ght=taglib+1.4
can't remember if I used that myself in breezy or if I compiled it myself so ymmv

won't it create some dependency problems?
*gulp* I still can't get over my previous traumatic experience with GIMP and libxrender/libcairo dependency hell (long story). I'll probably wait this one out till Dapper is released.

claydoh already posted the link to the Kubuntu announcement page. Near the bottom of that link is the repository for amaroK 1.4.

I guess you could install it since you've already installed the beta.

i did say in my post that that link wasn't working, right? or did i gorgot?
              lol
now i was going to try it again,
i was asking IF there IS another repository with the 1.4 final for breezy,
another one, apart of that one, but well, ...

              regards,

Umm... which is which? the link to the amaroK web page isn't working or the link to the Kubuntu annoucnement page isn't working or the repository posted on the Kubuntu announcement page (that claydoh linked to) isn't working? I'm confused...

                deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/amarok-14 dapper main

I think that's the only repository available so far.

                  http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index.php/Download
that page. if u look there's a link for
                  " Kubuntu Linux

                  * 1.4.0 for Dapper Drake (official)
                  * 1.4.0 for Breezy Badger and Dapper Drake
                  "

if u try the breezy one then u get to : http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/ind...r_Kubuntu_5.10
and maybe is just me, but there i can't find no repository adress for what the name of the link and page are.

Re: Amarok 1.4 is released for Kubuntu

Oh that's what you meant! I guess that downloads page hasn't been updated. I think the Kubuntu devs decided not to have an "official" release for amaroK 1.4 in Breezy because of the dependency on a newer version of taglib. Of course you could compile it yourself like what claydoh mentioned, but they probably don't recommend it, hence the absence of a link for Breezy.

Re: Amarok 1.4 is released for Kubuntu

I went to the page that yhotg listed in his post. The repository is listed in an instruction as to how to add it to an /etc/apt/sources.list. It is
                      Code:
                      deb [url]http://archive.czessi.net/ubuntu[/url] breezy main universe
I haven't tried it, so you're on your own.
