A Flashplayer for Firefox on an AMD 64

A very simple question which I have failed to resolve on the web,

Is there a Flashplayer for Firefox running on an AMD 64 machine (i.e. mine).

Adobe seems not to have a version for this and I suspect that there may be a programme devised by one of the community.

If the answer is NO can I resolve the problem by a simple switch to Konqueror or something else?

    Thank you.

    ADDITION (08/07):

This is one of the links that I found which is very informative:

I think you have to use the 32-bit version of firefox along with the 32bit version of Flash, which (apparently) will work, but you need the 32bit libraries as well or it won't work.

Re: A Flashplayer for Firefox on an AMD 64

I am having the same problem with Firefox plug-ins, and have limited experience with managing packages in Kubuntu. I read the How-to on the Ubuntu forum, and now I'm even more confused. Could anyone provide a simplified step-by-step procedure, tailored for Kubuntu, that a new user can follow? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

          Thanks,
          Kip

It should all be on that page dibl linked to above. You'd first enable all the good repos, you can do that in any number of package management systems that come installed by default just by going to the settings part of the application.

Then run the script on the howto page above for whatever version of Kubuntu you've got. After that you can click on any of those deb files for whatever 32-bit version browser you want, and gDebi will install it. Now you've got the 32-bit version installed, and you can install compatible 32-bit version plugins. The rest is pretty much copy and paste from that howto into a terminal and you should be good to go.

Right! I understand that part of it. I just can't figure out the commands to execute the script that is sitting on my desktop. I'm assuming it must be done from Terminal? I haven't had much experience with Debian. Thanks for the reply!

Oh, I see. Alright, first, if you haven't already, you need to extract the script from the archive. You want to open up Konqueror (your file manager), and go on over to your desktop. You'll right-click that archive and a menu will come up. In the menu is an entry labelled "Extract". Select "Extract Here" from the menu, and you'll end up with the script and a readme file.

Now you're ready to run the file. The way you actually run the script is to type ./FILENAME, where your script's file name replaces the word filename there. You have to type this when the terminal is in that directory, so you need to change directories over to that directory first. I don't know if you know how to do this, but it's pretty simple. You use the cd command. So to change over to the Desktop directory, you'd type cd Desktop and you'd now be in /home/lwrver/Desktop.
You type ls to list to files in that directory, so you can see if you're in the right place, and that's pretty much it. I think you'll be prompted to put in your password, but after that you should be set. But post back if you need any more help

OKAY! Many thanks molloollom.. I guess all I needed was a kickstart! I got it installed and working with your help. I owe you one. I appreciate you're taking the time to indulge me. I've got a lot to learn about Linux, especially Kubuntu.

                  Thanks again!

                      A previous message mentioned

                      http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1174435

that also discussed the Adobe reader. When I tried to run the install script for the Reader, it said that it didn't recognize my (64 bit) system. Fortunately I have a big disk and installed both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Kubuntu, so I can get all the 32 bit versions working on the i386 kernel. The, I can come back here and find some hints to access them when I am running the 64 bit kernel.

Although I am doing well with 2G RAM (on my new sytem --768M does very well on the system I will be phasing out), I am sure that Windows Vista will soon force upgrades to more RAM than a 32 bit system can handle and we will have the opposite problem of getting software for systems that are not such memory hogs as to require a 64 bit processor.
