As a comparison, my desktop install of Kubuntu 24.04 has the KDE Daemon in the System Tray. I'm assuming that's what it is, as the icon matches the one for KDE Daemon in the Entries list of System Tray Settings. My laptop installation of 25.04 doesn't have this.
On my desktop, this daemon tells me:
"Upgrade available
Ubuntu on 24.10
This version will stop receiving updates and security fixes in xxx days."
xxx as of now is 646
Why am I not seeing this on my laptop? Can I? How?
In KDE Plasma (which Kubuntu 25.04 uses), many services and processes that might have been considered "daemons" in the past are now handled by
systemd, specifically as user services. This means they are tied to your user session and start when you log in.
