How about a screenshot of your kinfocenter window, with the specific cpu model? Probably a t6400?
And there are variants on the graphics system on that CPU, though the specific cpu model should point to that.

In any case, the driver (which is built-in) is n ot loading for some reason.


It shouldn't matter in terms of driver modules loading, but it may be worth trying to log in to a default Xorg session instead of Wayland, if you haven't already.

Just tried a Google search to find out why the mesa driver wasn't working. I think this may be why the installer seems to have installed the wrong driver.

I suspect this driver is not in the repos for 25.04. Is it in the repos for 24.04?

That means your system is using software rendering instead of the gpu, for some reason the intel/mesa drivers are not loading. Even though the cpu/graphics may be as "new" as 2012, and as old as 2006, they should still work/be supported.
It may be that the most current kernels need a parameter set in grub for this to work, so having much more specific make/model and hardware details will help.

To be honest, sticking to an 24.04 LTS might be better here, I would not be surprised if this sort of thing becomes more common as this hardware ages even more.

I mentioned some of its specs in the first post in this thread, but I will now run Info Center to see what it says. I got the CPU right, but I must have been thinking of some other machine because the GPU is an llvmpipe. I remembered the RAM correctly.

14.04 was release 14 years ago. How old is this PC? What are it's specs? (how much RAM does it have?)

It is trying to run a game from 2008 so I can't look up specifics right now. I am using my phone to post. I think it's 4G RAM. Duo core 2 and integrated graphics. I think GPU Is a GM45 or something like that. Intel stuff. Old notebook. It ran games that most notebooks at the time with integrated graphics could not.

I have been doing Google searches, and I am wondering if I should install any i386 packages on my system.

If I add some Lubuntu repos to Kubuntu, will that work? Or should I install Lubuntu first and then the Plasma/KDE desktop? I like the Plasma/KDE desktop better than what Lubuntu has.

When I run the game Banished, it won't let me click on any of the menu buttons, plus it runs the game really slowly. Lubuntu 14.04 was on it last time I used this old machine, and it ran it. I had to do a fresh install because there was no way I was running an EOL on the internet! I tried running winecfg, and it wouldn't let me click on any tabs, and that's not in a game, so that's why I think something is missing. Maybe the CPU needs the correct firmware or something. The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo, and the GPU is an integrated Intel GM 4500. Also, some dialog boxes do not draw completely. Also, Specticle fails to capture any screenshots, and Firefox is glitchy and locks up the system sometimes.
