Problem 1:
If I do any calculation, such as
1 + 1 =

and I try to copy the result by clicking Edit -> Copy
the result doesn't get copied to the clipboard. This was working with Kubuntu 24.04

Problem 2:
If I press 1000
press divide
press 5
press the exponent button (it is written x 10^y on the button)
press 8

the result is 20,000,000,000 (20 billion)

instead of 2e-06

[Desktop]How to view all workspaces

In Kubuntu 24.04 a keyboard shortcut gave a view of all workspaces. I can't find how to do that in 26.04. I read that I should navigate in System Settings to Multitasking. When I click on System Settings I get only Quick Settings which doesn't give the navigation options a web search indicated I should see. Where can I set up workspace management to see everything on one screen?

I am used to KDE having color, and being bright and not this gulag black and white look that took over in KDE 4 and later..

When ever I reboot the 14.04 machine I have for some reason or look at its GUI and see the BRIGHT COLORFUL look of it.. I get annoyed when comparing to current releases..

I miss that look, and even the BOUNCING ICONS on the boot screen from KDE3.. yeah I know its not likely that its booted too often to see.. but still...

I've searched for something that would bring that back vs the drab gulag theme and look of current KDE releases...

Any one got a theme that brings back this look

Man, before it was annoying. Maybe someone listened to my bug report.

When you have folders starting with "a", for example

aa1
aa2
aa3
aa4
aa5

and I choose aa4 with my mouse, aa4 gets selected.
When I press on 'A' on my keyboard, instead of going to the NEXT folder starting with 'A', which would be aa5, the selection would jump back to aa1.

Whatever the first letter is, whether it is a file or folder, that was the previous behavior.
They fixed it.

Now, I can have a folder with thousands of files and folder with various names. I can select some file or folder, press a key, and the search will start starting from that point.

Hello everyone, I would like to ask some help regarding partition restoring.

This is about my mothers laptop which I prepared for upgrade to 26.04 (from 24.04) but somehow I did the epic mistake not to copy the folder with all the files I had collected for the transfer

I realized my mistake shortly after starting the 26.04 installation which means that first:

I changed the partition table to increase the EFI folder´s size (sda1) from 100MB to 300 MB (I think) because 26.04 required me to do so.
Kubuntu 24.04 was on sda5, so I shrinked it a bit and moved it to the right. I did that so I could also move the sda2,3,4 partitions (windows etc) to the right. This means that I understand/handle/describe the partitions in a linear way, just like kparted shows on its gui.
I chose regional settings etc, started the installation and after 10-15 minutes I realized my blunder and canceled the installation.

I am now booting the laptop live from the 2604 usb.

I have tried Testdisk with ¨deeper search¨ but it takes forever and does not find anything. I left it overnight. One thing here, the laptop went to sleep too, so I cannot be sure it worked 100%. I also tried RLinux but no good. It saw the old partition, tried to make an image but I do not find contents. Another utility I tried is Hetman Partition Recovery software but no luck.

Any ideas?

[Post-Install]Unable to RDP into Kubuntu KRDP from Windows 11

I was on Kubuntu 26.04 and thinking it was the problem, I forced an upgrade to 26.10, so I could get KDE 6.7. As there have been fixes and improvements for KRDP.
Computer one is on Windows 11 Pro. This will be called C1 in this post.
Computer two is on Kubuntu 26.10 This will be called C2 in this post.

C2 had Kubuntu installed, and the RDP from C1 to C2 worked, then for some reason, I formatted and reinstalled Kubuntu on C2, in an attempt to fix a different issue.
Now I cannot get RDP to work from C1 to C2. I can remote in Via SSH so I know the IP address works. The network connection is good.
No settings for RDP on C1 have been changed. Those have remained the same, minus what ever windows updates have come out in the past several months.

When RDP was working, I had a dedicated Nvidia 2060 installed, and have since removed it, and gone to on board graphics.
I just want this machine to be a media station, and VM server. But want a GUI installed. I do not want to walk over to it, every time I want to make a change to something that requires a GUI.
Does KRDP need a graphics card installed? Everything is enabled for KRDP, all the proper settings are in place.
RDP tries to connect, then just asks for the password again. I use bitvise which is based on Putty, and windows RDP.

The way bitvise works is you connect via SSH. Once connected, it has a RDP connection it can do over SSH. Kind of neat. I use that instead of Windows RDP, as Microshaft has made changes to Windows RDP that just do not work for the average user. Please let me know what logs and how to get them are needed.

With Kubuntu 18.04, 20.04, 24.04, the technique to turn on the Numlock during boot time was to open file
/etc/sddm.conf

put
Numlock=on

at the top of the file and save.

With Kubuntu 26.04, this doesn't seem to have an effect on the Numlock.

Kubuntu 26.04.1 (X11) – Thunderbird custom notification sound resets the idle timer

Hi everyone!

I've recently moved back from Kubuntu 24.04.5 to 26.04.1 to see if some of the issues I encountered when I first tried 26.04 have been fixed.

I always make a full system image with Rescuezilla before upgrading or changing versions, so I can easily go back to 24.04.5 if needed. That's actually what I did after my first attempt with 26.04.

I'm still using X11 exclusively. I've tried Wayland again, but some of the problems I reported here on the forum some time ago are still present, so for now I'm sticking with X11.

Anyway, while testing 26.04.1, I noticed something strange with Thunderbird and the automatic screen and power management.

I'm using Thunderbird installed through Schwarzer Kater's excellent script:

I also use Birdtray to keep Thunderbird in the system tray. I initially thought it might be involved, but after testing with Birdtray out of the picture, I was able to rule it out.

By the way, I've also updated Birdtray and got it working properly with my current setup. I'll share the details in a separate post.

The problem is that whenever Thunderbird plays my custom WAV notification sound for a new email, the X11 idle timer seems to reset, even though I haven't touched the keyboard or mouse.

I noticed this because the monitors weren't turning off when expected, and automatic suspension was sometimes being delayed.

After quite a few tests, with some help from ChatGPT to monitor xprintidle, examine the system logs and compare the results, we managed to narrow it down quite a bit.

Here's what I've found so far:

With my custom WAV selected in Thunderbird, the xprintidle counter resets when the notification sound plays.
If I switch Thunderbird to its default notification sound, I haven't been able to reproduce the problem.
Playing that same WAV file with Audacious doesn't reset the idle timer either.
I've also tested without Birdtray running, and it doesn't appear to be responsible.

So it doesn't seem to be simply the WAV file or audio playback in general. It looks more like something related to how Thunderbird handles custom notification sounds, although I can't say for certain what's causing it.

One important detail: I never experienced this behaviour on Kubuntu 24.04.5, where I was also using Thunderbird installed as a traditional .deb package, not Snap.

I haven't tested the Snap version of Thunderbird on 26.04.1, so I don't know whether it behaves the same way. And, to be honest, I don't plan to test it unless I really have to. I prefer to avoid Snap whenever possible.

Also, just to clarify, Thunderbird isn't permanently blocking suspension. What I've actually observed is the idle timer being reset when the custom sound plays, which can delay whatever actions depend on that timer.

For now, I've left Thunderbird using its default notification sound, and everything seems to be working normally.

I'm happy to run further tests or provide logs if that helps.

Is the RAGNROCK RK 104 fully compatible with Ubuntu Core? I think it is mostly, but what about controlling the RGB? There are 19 colors, so it would be nice to be able to control them from Kubuntu 26.04. I will be using an I7 9th gen, so the MOBO has an LGA1151 Socket and the Z390 chipset.

I would like to know how to install and enable Tamil fonts and Tamil typing/transliteration support in Kubuntu 26.10.

When I was using Windows, I used Azhagi+, which allowed me to type Tamil using English characters (Tanglish), for example:

vanakkam → வணக்கம்
epdi irukeenga → எப்படி இருக்கீங்க

I would like to have similar functionality in Kubuntu, mainly for WhatsApp, web browsers, and other chat/messaging applications.

Could someone please guide me on the following?

How to install/enable Tamil fonts and language support?
How to enable Tamil Tanglish transliteration?
Is there a built-in Linux/Kubuntu solution, or do I need additional software?
Is there any software similar to Azhagi+ for Linux?
Will it work system-wide in WhatsApp, browsers, and other applications?
Can Azhagi+ be installed directly on Kubuntu, or can the Windows version be used through Wine? If so, are there any limitations or special configurations required?

I am specifically looking for transliteration/input support, not just Tamil fonts. My requirement is to type in English/Tanglish and have it converted to Tamil script while typing.

If anyone has already configured this on Kubuntu 26.10, I would greatly appreciate a simple step-by-step guide, including the required software/packages and settings.

[SOLVED]Missing Ubuntu 26.04.1 Default Sources after upgrade from 24.04.5

I upgraded my existing 24.04.5 install on my desktop to 26.04.1 without issue but noticed in Discover that the "Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS" Sources section is not present, I included a screenshot because I wasn't exactly sure what the actual name of this section of sources is. I only noticed because the fresh install of 26.04.1 on my laptop does have it. I was able to view software sources on my desktop using software-properties-qt and flag the Chrome Repo to be included in updates. I did notice that the software-properties-qt window looks like it is an older version compared to what is on my laptop. Are there steps I can follow to fix Discover not showing the software sources menu and make sure it is as current as my laptop?

Hey all!

All of my other machines, two laptops and two desktops, have been upgraded to Kubuntu 26.04. For the most part, the upgrade from 24.04 went fairly well. Now, one desktop initially showed the Kodi screen, but after I got back to the KDE login, I noticed the selection and have since ensured it's correct. That one was weird.

The final one is as follows:
Dell T7910 (72 total cores w/256 GB mem)
A 14 TB main drive and a 4 TB SSD for local backups
Kubuntu 24.04
Nvidia driver 580.178.04 with a Quadro K2200 (4GB memory)
A 43" main monitor and a side 27" monitor

I have been reading the forums and Google regarding the 580.178.04 Nvidia driver and Kubuntu 26.04. And, I am a bit concerned. The driver is the Nvidia one, not the open one.

Any pitfalls to learn from and/or avoid?

Hello everybody, I recently installed Kubuntu on my laptop, and the journey was pretty well. Everything worked good if not better then on Windows after configuration. But surprisingly, I didn't find any customizations for the tachpad gestures and surprising lack of support for pinch to zoom (on anything else but the browser) even though I'm on Wayland KDE Plasma 6.6.6. And also I noticed that LibriOffice Draw would behave a lot more lager compared to my Windows system even with hardware acceleration ON (I literally tried everything from increasing the cache size to running it with

Confirmation of an issue discovered in Kernel 7.0.0-38 dealing with the screen flickering during high performance. The following are the detail of my situation and why i reverted back to kernel 7.0.0-34 which resolved my problem. post has been made to Ubuntu as the issue has also been reported there.

Hardware: Beelink SER4 mini PC, AMD Ryzen 7 4800U (Renoir iGPU, DCN 2.1), 32 GB RAM
Display: 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz over HDMI (HDMI-A-2)
OS: Kubuntu 26.04, KDE Plasma (Wayland)

Problem: With kernel 7.0.0-38-generic, the screen randomly flashes whenever the
CPU is under sustained heavy load (HandBrake encoding, or stress-ng --cpu 0).
Flashes appear within a few minutes of load starting.

Booting 7.0.0-34-generic on the same system, with the same settings, gives no
flashes over 25+ minutes of full CPU load (HandBrake) plus ~50% GPU load.

Reproduce: stress-ng --cpu 0 --timeout 20m on 7.0.0-38.

Ruled out:
- HDMI cable and ports (swapped)
- Temperature (CPU Tctl ~75°C at full load)
- Power draw (still flashes with CPU capped to 1.4 GHz, PPT ~10 W)
- CPU scheduling (still flashes with stress-ng at nice 19)
- Clocksource (TSC was falling back to HPET; tsc=reliable did not change it)
- GPU clock switching (power_dpm_force_performance_level=high did not change it)
- amdgpu.sg_display=0 is set on both kernels
No amdgpu/drm errors appear in dmesg when the flashes occur.

This looks like a regression between 7.0.0-34 and 7.0.0-38.

After updating to 26.04 LTS version, my Signal apps display is very unstable and flickering.
Hovering the mouse over the Signals window seems to influence the flickering behavior.
When scrolling or viewing pictures the display is heavily disturbed.

Is this a known behavior? And if yes is there something to do about it?
