Hi,
After a few years without Linux, I'm trying to switch away from Windows again.
After a failed attempt on a Fujitsu U9311x (no resume after suspend), I decided to ask the AI.
It recommended an HP ProBook 360 435 G8. Does anyone have this HP model up and running (without any issues)? I don’t need fingerprint recognition, but I definitely need the stylus to write.
The basics—closing the lid to suspend and opening it to resume work—should also work alongside the other features.
Before I order a leased return, I wanted to hear your opinion. Will it work, or should I steer clear?

I have search this quite a bit and not quite sure when this started.

When I try to run Spectacle (or any screenshot program), my screen blanks until I hit "ESC".

I have checked the "amdgpu" version and seems to be the latest driver and system is up to date with all the latest updates.

I did come across a suggestion to switch to x11 from Wayland but believe this version of Kubuntu I am on does not support x11.

I am not sure where to proceed from here.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm trying to enter /root directory.

Also I am triying to enter this folder by Thunar, but system wrote:

Failed to open directory "root".
Error opening directory "/root": Permission denied.

Can you explain to me how I can get access to folder /root.

Tried to do minimum install but the setup end with errors:

I noticed this error already in the 26.04 release. Was very disappointed this was not fixed in 26.04.1.

I am running 26.04 LTS in dual boot with Mint Zena. I have a back up parition on another Drive. that I plan to use and swop files with each system.

Dolphin File manager will not open the folders on this partition(B-UP) I googled for answer on Google but unsure if the answers are correct and will work. Being abit of a Newbie and perhaps (thick) I found one of those answers, above me.

If anyone can assist and provide a easy to understand way of achieving the result. Always as part of my learning curve a explantion of why I cannot do this. My own thought that it do to Permissions

After the recent update I no longer can print despite printing happily for months. Changed drivers, tried different commands and no matter what I do I cant print. I have 2 printers (Brother Inkjet and HP inkjet), both are experiencing the same behaviour. Either the job doesn't go into the printer queue at all or it does and then prints a blank page 10 minutes later. CUPS issue? Anybody else having the same issue? Any suggestions?

[Software]Qt5 file picker causes applications to crash after upgrading to 26.04

Since upgrading to Kubuntu 26.04 and KDE Plasma 6.6 (currently on 6.6.6), Qt5 applications crash when they need to open the file picker for opening/saving. Qt6 applications are not affected. Below is a crash log from Qt5 Designer, but all other Qt5 applications do the same thing when opening a file picker.

Has anyone else experienced this? I found some people with the same issue over on the Arch and Manjaro forums, but most answers from there are not applicable to the Debian/Ubuntu ecosystem.

For some time now (starting with Kubuntu 24.04 LTS), there has been a bug that causes the graphical interface to freeze when using AMD GPUs. Error in the journal:

The behavior varies depending on the GPU type. Some systems freeze daily, some only while gaming, and others even during normal office work.

I'm using an “AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX” here. Fortunately, it's only happened maybe once or twice a month. Mostly while gaming, but also a few times while working, which was really annoying.
After such an incident, a reboot is necessary. ACPI stops responding. A reboot via SSH is possible, but depending on the severity of the issue, it can take a little longer.

According to the post above, the bug has now actually been fixed starting with the following kernel versions (hoply):

6.18.44, 7.1.8, and 7.2-rc7

I don't know if the bug will be fixed (backported) in Kubuntu 26.04.1, but as a workaround, I installed the Liquorix kernel: https://liquorix.net
The kernel is always up to date. So far, the issue hasn't occurred again. But since it happened quite rarely here, I'm not 100% sure.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this info with you guys in case any of you are also affected by this bug.

My bluetooth vanished after the last upgrade. I was hoping that it would be fixed after today's upgrade but no.

After that last upgrade it informed me that i needed to reboot. After booting I had no bluetooth adapter. So I am unable to use my bluetooth speakers,
when I go system settings bluetooth. It tells me that there is no bluetooth adpter and need to use an external adapter for bluetooth.

My speakers had been running fine with the exception of having ti reconnect them from time to time.

From the time I press Enter from the Grub menu, it takes more than two-minutes to reach the Login Screen.

Attaching files analyze.txt, blame.txt, and critical-chain.txt for review by those knowledgeable with those files. I'd like to know what I can do; if I can do anything; to speed up the boot process.

I've been recovering mostly pictures from old CD-ROMs, using an old (about twenty years) DVD drive.

My problem is that when CDs can't be read, the device keeps retrying, and the only way to stop it is to shutdown. Even a reboot can fail to stop the drive retrying endlessly.

Is there a way to force an error on the device? The shutdown sequence does so.
