If i installed Kubuntu with secure boot disabled, will switching it on work as intended?

I've noticed over the years that quite a few users who copy files from their pc onto external devices are reporting the files as either corrupt or zero bytes in size, and we know that the file-copy buffer still holds much of the file to be copied even after it says that it's completed, which they dont see as they eject their external device.

For the sake of sanity and new users everywhere, wouldnt it be better to add a /etc/sysctl.d/8-writing_buffer.conf file and add the following lines to at least report accurate copy status:-

vm.dirty_bytes=52428800
vm.dirty_background_bytes=26214400

copy of [CODE]....[/CODE]

is it possible to install a vBulletin plugin that adds a Copy button to code blocks?
so users can just click on the copy button instead of selecting text and copy?

[Post-Install]Can't log into Torguard VPN

I installed the latest Neon last week and everything worked perfectly when I installed and logged on to my Torguard VPN, but when I installed Kubuntu LTS 26.04 and went to log on to Torguard, I got an error message saying "Please retry: It was not possible to set up the VPN interface. An error occurred while creating the VPN interface." Does anyone know what the problem might be?

No sound when emptying trash

Global Theme: Kubuntu

When testing Trash: Emptied the sound plays. But when actually emptying the trash, no sound is played. This is of course, not really a big deal, but I'd like to know why, when a sound is specified, it doesn't play when the trash is being emptied.

Xscreensaver doesn’t detect when a video is playing, even though I’ve enabled this setting in the Power Settings:

Is there a technical solution that would prevent Xscreensaver from activating the screensaver whilst videos are playing in Haruna or the Vivaldi browser (YouTube videos)?

[RESOLVED] Mark Channels Read not working

I've read all the posts in the Announcements Sub-Forums yet they still say "Unread". All posts as far as I can see show they are "read" (not highlighted or flagged unread). I clicked Mark Channels Read but the read status isn't changing.

I noticed the read status changed to Unread yesterday with the slow response times on KFN but didn't mention it because I thought it was related. Today I'm still not able to change the read status by clicking Mark Channels Read. All other sections and sub-forums are behaving as expected (I read a post and it changes from "Unread" to read).

Did something change or is it my profile?

NeoChat Unable to Sign-in using SSO

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share my resolution for signing into NeoChat using a matrix.org account. I am using Kubuntu 26.04 LTS.

Problem Behavior:

When attempting to sign-in using the SSO URL in the NeoChat, my browser (Librewolf AND Firefox) would fail to sign in with the following error: "can’t connect to the server at localhost:XXXXX" where “XXXXX” would be a random assortment of numbers every time.

Resolution:

This was a two-part resolution:

Use a different browser other than Librewolf. I used the snap pack of Firefox.
Temporarily disable the Firewall in your System Settings (System Settings > Networking > Wi-Fi & Internet > Firewall > toggle in the top-right corner of window).
Make sure to close and re-open NeoChat after changing your browser and temporarily disabling the Firewall.

Attempting to use Librewolf even with the Firewall disabled did not work, but worked fine again using Firefox. Hope this helps if you are having this problem as well!

two warnings after system update

After a regular system update I got two warnings both concerning dpkg:

Is this something I have to take action?

Slow Response Time On KFN

I'm experiencing slow response time here on KFN. It is the same on all my machines. I noticed this last night at around 10:30 PT. The response times on other websites is normal. I checked my internet speed to make sure the issue wasn't on my side.

Is KFN experiencing issues?

[RESOLVED] What is the "Correct Way" To Insert An Image When Posting?

I've posted images in the past on KFN without issue, and I can see them in my old posts from any computer or virtual machine. I noticed in my recent post I only see my photo when I view KFN from my laptop. I don't see the photo in my post from my virtual machines or my iPhone, but I see other member's photos consistently. I checked the Help files, but I didn't find a solution.

Kdialog script in Dolphin service menu not honored

I use several Dolphin service menus I wrote to semi-automate some tasks. One of those uses ffmpeg to re-encode video files to mp4 and with custom settings to reduce their size. In this service menu I use kdialog to show a progress screen so I know when the encoding is finished.

For some reason I have not yet figured out, the icon in in progress dialog window does not display the icon I have chosen and instead displays the "Wayland" place-holder icon (white W with yellow background). This is not a big problem, but I wonder if there's a way make it display the chosen icon (convert.svg) instead

remote desktop setting not shown in system settings

I am trying to set up a simple remote session, and looking at ideas on the internet Kubuntu 26.04 users demonstrate a setting I just do not have on any of my 3 machines with Kubuntu 26.04. It is supposed to reside in settings>system>remote. I have no such setting in any of my installs. Is it because I did a minimal install and removed all snaps?

I'm using Kubuntu 26.04 and have encountered a bug where a file on the desktop disappears when you rename it (provided there is only one file on the desktop; it doesn't happen if there are two or more).

The bug has been reported already here, and is now fixed, as seen here.

But the fix is in Plasma 6.7.0. Kubuntu 26.04 is currently on Plasma version 6.6.4.

My first question is if this fix will ever land in 26.04: will 26.04 get Plasma 6.7 or will a fix like this be backported to the 6.6 series? My second is whether or not there is anything I can do to report it in Kubuntu itself (I realized I don't even know if Kubuntu bugs are filed using the regular Ubuntu bug tracker or bugs.kde.org or someplace else) in case that's needed for the fix to actually make it into 26.04.

Apologies if a question about this process has been asked elsewhere and I missed it.
