Mandriva / ROSA Marathon / SimpleWelcome / Rosa Launcher with the Kubuntu

    Earlier: http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...-KLook-KDE-4-9

    Thread: KDE Application Launchers: http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...tion-Launchers

The Rosa launcher etc. is /1/:

SimpleWelcome is the completely new kickoff menu which is used in Mandriva 2011 instead of Kickoff...

TimeFrame is a new utility for Nepomuk. It allows you not to think in which folder you saved your photography, video or documents. You need only a date.
    More /2/.

The Rosa Launcher is working with the Kubuntu. Tested at here Kubuntu 11.10&12.04.

    Sources

This is one way to get the source code.

Browsing to the: http://rpm.pbone.net/ and entering the searched expression: rosa-launcher.

    Donwloading the RPM source: rosa-launcher-0.34.9-1.src.rpm

    Unpacking it /3/:
    Code:
    rpm2cpio rosa-launcher-0.34.8-1.src.rpm | cpio -idmv
    Now there are:
    rosa-launcher-0.34.9.tar.gz
    rosa-launcher.spec
    or from the Rosa

    https://abf.rosalinux.ru/tour/sources Search: rosa-launcher

    Build-Depends
    (with the Kubuntu 11.10)

    - build-essential
    and
    - cmake
    - kde-workspace-dev
    - libxrandr-dev
    - kde-runtime

    DIY Example

The Rosa Launcher has a make file and it has options build & install.
    Build:
    Code:
    make build
    Install:
    Code:
    make install
Note that there is no uninstall !

    At here:
    .../rosa-launcher-0.34.9$ make build
    mkdir -p build
    cd build; cmake ..; make
-- The C compiler identification is GNU
-- The CXX compiler identification is GNU
    ...
    [100%] Built target plasma_applet_rosastarter
    make[3]: Leaving directory `/media/sda3/Rosa/test/rosa-launcher-0.34.9/rosa-starter/build'
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/media/sda3/Rosa/test/rosa-launcher-0.34.9/rosa-starter/build'
    cp -f build/lib/*.so ./
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/media/sda3/Rosa/test/rosa-launcher-0.34.9/rosa-starter'
    /rosa-launcher-0.34.9$ sudo make install
    [sudo] password for oneline:
    mkdir -p /usr/share/kde4/services/ /usr/lib/kde4/ /usr/bin/ /usr/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES/ /usr/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids/rosastarter/ /usr/share/icons/rosa/apps/128/ /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/icons/buttons/ /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/extra/
    cp -f local-applet/plasma-applet-rosa-launcher.desktop /usr/share/kde4/services/
    cp -f local-applet/build/lib/plasma_applet_rosa-launcher.so /usr/lib/kde4/
    cp -Rf locale/ /usr/share/
    cp -f build/rosa-launcher /usr/bin/
    cp -f rosa-services-runner/plasma-runner-rosa-services.desktop /usr/share/kde4/services/
    cp -f rosa-services-runner/build/lib/plasma_runner_rosa_services.so /usr/lib/kde4/
    cp -f icons/rosalauncher.png /usr/share/icons/rosa/apps/128/
    cp -f icons/buttons/* /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/icons/buttons/
    cp -f rosa-starter/plasma-applet-rosastarter.desktop /usr/share/kde4/services/
    cp -f rosa-starter/build/lib/plasma_applet_rosastarter.so /usr/lib/kde4/
    cp -f icons/rosa-icon.png icons/mandriva-icon.png /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/icons/
    cp -f extra/checkos.sh /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/extra/
    Thre is no uninstall !:
    /rosa-launcher-0.34.9$ sudo make uninstall
make: *** No rule to make target `uninstall'. Stop.
The uninstall can be done by hand with the "make install" output.

    Launcher button image

As default the Rosa Launcher has the Mandriva star in the launcher button.

    To change this:

    1) Remove the mandriva-icon.png
    Code:
    sudo rm /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/icons/mandriva-icon.png
    2) Make a symlink to the wanted icon (at this the start-here-kubuntu.png):
    Code:
    sudo ln -s /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/icons/oxygen/128x128/places/start-here-kubuntu.png /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/icons/mandriva-icon.png

    or simply overwrite:

    Code:
    sudo kde-cp /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/icons/oxygen/128x128/places/start-here-kubuntu.png /usr/share/apps/rosa-launcher/icons/mandriva-icon.png

Didn't find simple welcome or ROSA launcher very useful. On the other hand, Mandriva/ROSA 2011 was using a minimum of 700MB RAM and painfully slow on this very same old machine running Oneiric like a chump. I really hope you will not force this into KDE or Kubuntu.
Ok, got it: Ashes come from burning.

Does it make it true, if something is possible?

( or The Dragons of Probability /1/)

You expect too much of me.

The KLook & StackFolder could end someday to the KDE release. They are now in the KDE playground - "KDE Playground - Applications that are early in their lifecycle."

The Rosa Launcher is an alternative to the KIckoff. There are others...

Some of them are part of the KDE release. Some of them are developed by those who want something different /2/.

        http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KD...n#kde-baseapps
        http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KD...eplasma-addons

According to this, they will be part of KDE SC 4.9, but as far i can see they still aren't merged into plasma-addons/kde-baseapps, and i think it's too late for them to catch with this release cycle.

No, but I've seen more than once what a short step it is from possible to cockup. Mind your step!

For some reason I am unable to get Rosa-Launcher to run correctly.
            OS:Kubuntu 12.04
            Video: ATI Radeon 5450
            2 GB DDR2 Ram
            Dual Intel Zenon 3.4
            HD: 250GB WD SATA

All I get is part of my name at the top.
Places and half the Home folder icon and that's it.

              The KDE version ?
              The Rosa launcher version ?
Did you build it from the sources ?
              The source is from where
Did you install it from a deb package ?
The package is from where ?
Is your Kubuntu 12.04 installation working fine (plasma desktop working) ?
Have you tried to start with the clean KDE/Plasma settings (make a new user...) ?
What display driver are you using ?
Is the Xorg log clean ? - no errors ?
Are there error messages when you try to launch the Rosa launcher ?

                Thank you Master Skribe

Your information and links where very helpful

first I tried rosa-launcher_0.30.12-2_i386.deb (did not work correctly).
second I tried rosa-launcher-0.34.9-1.src.rpm (did not work correctly).
Then I tried the version you put up rosa-launcher_0.34.18~precise~ppa1_i386.deb and (it works Thank you).

I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04 and then updated.
Then I checked the property’s of rosa-launcher_0.34.18~precise~ppa1_i386.deb to make sure it was executable then clicked on rosa-launcher_0.34.18~precise~ppa1_i386.deb and install began (did install with no problems)
Then I downloaded the widget for Rosa Launcher (rosastarter.zip) here

                In konsole I ran

                plasmapkg -i rosastarter.zip

The widget installed with no problems

Added the widget and Rosa Launcher came up and everything was there.

                Thanks again

                  Rosa Launcher 2.0 (QML)

                  With the Kubuntu 13.04 (alpha) / KDE 4.10 (RC3)

The Rosa launcher 2 is using the QML.

The sources can be found: https://abf.rosalinux.ru/tour/sources
Various binaries can be found from the Ubuntu PPA: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?n...=rosa-launcher

The Rosa Launcher 2.0 is reading the background (background.jpg) and the launcher icon picture (rosa-icon.png) from the /usr/share/rosa-launcher/assets/...

The launcher is a plasma widget: Add widget...

The Rosa Launcher 2 has the same Welcome/Applications/TimeFrame submenus as the earlier version.
