    Exclamation Cant update oneric to precise 12.04

    i had 12.04 a couple of days before , but had to format !!

    so i installed oneric ocelot again using cd and tried to update it but couldn't

    and could any one pls tell me how to acquire superuser privilege ?!

    i have the following error message when i tried to update from Konsole

    You want to upgrade. Command:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    only updates information about what packages are available in repositories. It doesn't install anything.

    Request about superuser privilege means that you need to type sudo before any other command.

    Edit:
    But I would recommend a clean fresh install of 12.04. It will be much quicker and less problem risky.

    Distribution upgrades are reasonably pain-free now. Before going through the hassle of yet another rebuild, try this at a command prompt:

    I am planning to upgrade ubuntu 10.4.x 64bit (gnome2 desktop) to Kubuntu 12.04.1.
    Having problems with 10.4 last months:
    -remote (vnc) dies sometimes
    -gnome2 "hangs" sometimes with open only one program and wallpaper (all other is missing; but running)
    It is my home NAS, web server, Jabber server and Amule (from PPA!).
    Plan is:
    -upgrade to next LTS
    -install kubuntu-desktop

    Anyone done this?

    you can ......but I would not recommend it ......having the 2 DE's installed together now days creates quirks in their behaviour .......I would suggest a fresh install of Kubuntu-12.04

    if for some reason that’s not an option .......let us know what quirks you discover when you do it ....

    i remove non open amd graphic driver.... it is more stable now.
