    Mouse cursor disappearing

    Hi everyone,

Has anybody else noticed their mouse cursor disappearing a few seconds after you stop moving it? It's driving me crazy. This must've only happened in the last few days, and I can't figure out what's causing it.

I've tried removing my .kde folder and starting fresh, but the cursor still disappears. I tried purging all KDE packages from my system, and then reinstalling kubuntu-full, but the problem is still there.

Not sure what to do except a format and reinstall, but that seems awfully drastic.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Try creating anew user first and see if they have the same problem.

Same problem. The issue doesn't exist on the KDM login screen; it only happens after logging in.

I've tried with desktop effects on and off, and either way, it still happens. I'm stumped.

I had something like that about a year ago. The mouse pointer would disappear when hovering over a link but come back when moved again. Never did solve the problem. Sorry.>

For me it seemed to be related to old hardware. Same thing happened with gnome, also Fedora. I gave up and started using Lubuntu. That worked well. I now use newer hardware that works fine with Kubuntu. The old one will soon be setup as a server.

Hm; it's an almost three year-old Dell Latitude E6500 laptop with Intel video. It's run Kubuntu all its life. I'm wondering if my system is just crufty after multiple upgrades and needs a fresh install. I think I may have gone from 10.04 -> 10.10 -> 11.04 -> 11.10 -> 12.04 on this thing. :-)

Do you have the package unclutter /1/ installed ?

Yes I did, and removing it fixed it! Thank you!

A couple days ago I decided I wanted the full Kubuntu experience, and I installed the kubuntu-full package. Interestingly enough, when I purged unclutter, kubuntu-full also uninstalled, so unclutter is a dependency on kubuntu-full. It's probably too late in the game to change that, but I would think this dependency should be removed.

                Thanks again!

Being curious I installed unclutter to play with. Be nice if it had an entry in system settings or a hot key to turn it on and off.
