View Full Version : drag & drop doesn't work on file roller

Hello,
Is there any fix for drag & drop to extract archives on kde?
This function works fine on unity and gnome but on kde the files never extracted.
I've tried this on file roller which used by default for zip, rar files. When I drag a file and point to a folder on dolphin for eg, I get the + sign before I release the mouse button, but after nothing is extracted.
EDIT:
This function works fine on arc

I think you've just found out KDE is best used with it's own utilities and Ark is the one for compression.
On the other hand, the package manager should pull in all the right dependencies if you wish to install a Gnome utility.
So I assume File roller is installed correctly but the Mime types are not set up properly.

Thanks for the answer.
Maybe is my mistake because I installed kubuntu on an Ubuntu installation after I was using unity for some weeks, but file roller seems to be the default for zip archives. I don't bother to use ark if behaves correctly and do the job.

dolphin ...the default file manager for Kubuntu "KDE" will have if you right click the archive (zip, rar,) a menu item at the bottom of the list "extract"

I know that, but most of the times I open the archives from firefox without to save them, and firefox open them with file roller.
Anyway I now change it to open them with ark, so it's not a big deal.
