Volume buttons not working

I know I fixed this when I had 11.10 but dammit I can't remember how I did it. I have a vostro 3400 that had the digital (and annoying) volume and audio play controls at the top of the keyboard. Although I get the pop-up showing the volume going up and down the volume doesn't actually change.

I seem to remember that it had something to do with Phonon (perhaps I just removed it?). I just looked a muon and when I ask to remove it, it sure wants to rip out what looks like a heck of a lot of KDE.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't touch phonon, but you could try removing pulseaudio, I always do that, but I'm not sure it would solve your problem

Yup sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio did the trick. Thanks!
