"Most" people thirty years ago were introduced to computing using a Windows computer at work or school.

Yes, Apple, IBM, Tandy made attempts but it "took off" with Windblows...

If IBM is really going to push this there will be a whole new generation of people using "a Linux" at work.....

which "should", one would think, spill over to the home.

Comments anyone?

Reflective of a larger trend. Software > hardware. The more stuff we can move off proprietary hardware and onto generic x86 boxes upped to to the max, the better off we'll all be. I read recently about an experiment where someone pushed 2,000 flows through half a core in a no-name 400 MHz x86 clone running open source routing software.

I love it! Today it's a server, tomorrow it's a router...all controlled with smart orchestration and a shared connection/flow state database.
