View Full Version : [SOLVED] Avidemux audio has a shuddering sound on video files

As a lot of excellent progress has been made with Precise, I am inclined to test it on as many applications as possible. I use Avidemux to edit video files recorded by Kaffeine. Unfortunately the sound from it is shuddering at around 2Hz. I get the same results form avi and mp4 files as well as m2t files from Kaffeine.
Has anyone else has experienced this problem or should I be using another video editor with Precise?

Have you tried KDenLive? I've only begun experimenting with it myself...so far, it's doing alright.

Have you tried KDenLive? I've only begun experimenting with it myself...so far, it's doing alright. It certainly is able to load the files that I want to edit and also play them with the correct sound. Unfortunately, I am still having trouble trying to master what I can do so easily with Avidemux.
In brief, I record Digital TV program with Kaffeine and then remove the start and end plus the advertising so that I can look at the recorded program starting at the beginning and without the adds. With Avidemux, I can search for the next blank frame which can locate some part of the add and then use the backward and forward options to mark the start and end of the add and then cut it out. In this process, the timeline is rearranged. In my experimenting with KDenlive, material that I had removed, I could not get it to close the gaps in the timeline.
KDenlive has many options which I currently do not require. However I can see that it will be of use in the future.

I have finally worked our what the problem was with Avidemux. Under Edit>Preferences>Audio the AudioDevice was Alsa. I changed that to PulseAudioS and now the sound is perfectly satisfactory. While I was in the Preferences, I also changed the Threading to 2 as I have two CPU's threaded. On the System Monitor it now shows Avidemux using both CPU's equally.
I find that using the forums certainly motivates me more to find a solution. Thanks SteveRiley.
