By "update," do you mean after you upgraded the OS from a previous version, like 11.04, or do you mean updates just within 11.10?

Thank you. You might be able to use the workaround given here. (http://ubuntu.igameilive.com/2011/11/temporary-problematic-bluetooth-fix-in.html) I also found this page (http://askubuntu.com/questions/66529/how-can-i-get-my-bluetooth-adapter-working-on-a-toshiba-satellite-m645) with a reference to the "Blueman" package, which also may help. Another option is to try installing 12.04 from scratch when it's released next month, or go back to 11.04.
