Software updates

I've just recently joined the linux world, so please understand I have little understanding of what is going on. I am trying to apply updates to fix the bugs on my computer and I get 'The package download failed, Please check your internet connectivity.'
When I clicked the details this is what I got.

I have not used linux even though I had it installed it on my computer about a year ago. The reason being, for some unresolved problem I am not able to connect to the internet via wifi. So I just stick to windows 7. Now though I am trying to switch over, mostly for security reasons.

I would like to thank anyone who might help me. I am a little technologically challenged, but I will do my best.

It's not the internet. I have a good clean connection.

I have tried countless times. I've even tried selecting an individual package. The connection is not the problem, of that I am sure.

Your /etc/apt/sources.list file is screwed up. Those repositories don't exist. Open kate as root
kdesu kate and copy and paste the following lines and save it as /etc/apt/sources.list. If it ask if you want to overwrite the existing file answer yes.

Hiya,

Thanks for all the comments and help and such. I have finally managed to update my software. I redid it on a whim before trying to figure out one of the suggested helps. I don't really know why it wasn't working. The computer wiz in the family tried with no avail to fix, but maybe she did get it to work.

The internet problem still hold true. For now though I will be okay.
