Hi again!
Now i have the second problem, wich generated the first problem i had! ;D

So i want to rip a dvd, i mean a selfmade dvd. Some years ago i made 2 DVD of my children, and now i would like to make divx of theme.
Why? I just buyed a Panasonic TV with usb support, and it supports DivX too. As i know Divx is a good compromise for quality. My TV supports some other codecs, but i am not shure which. So as i am sure it supports DivX i wanted to encode the dvd's in that format.

I tried it with acidrip, but in that program i only find Avi, xvid and other (not known formats). If i try to play theme on TV, it looks like half screen distorted, like when there's no signal in Digital TV. (the bix pixels if you know what i mean!)

I tried in avi, but no way. So i was asking me how sould i rip the DVD to become out a good quality to play theme on my TV.

Check out Handbrake. It's a pretty easy to use DVD ripper.

Thanks, but it seems to not be anymore supported for the linux version. The new version is not available for kubuntu.

You didn't say which version of kubuntu you're using, and the newer versions of handbrake don't work with gnome

works fine for me...

Now i played the results on tv, and they look a little better, but not optimal.
I use maverick kubuntu.

I suppose i have some grafik driver problems. But how to solve theme?

I use this thread when I'm ripping DVD's to help determine the best settings:
